Anyone Ask About Interior Noise?

Anyone that has seen the Elio in person ask how much interior noise can be expected?

Great question. I know that this will be my substitute for my motorcycle and it can't be noisier than riding it. And since I like all the fresh air I will probably be riding with the windows down so noise still won't be a factor. Finally, due to combat related hearing loss, I probably couldn't tell the difference anyway.

I know for $6800 you can't have everything, but it will have to be somewhat quiet inside for me to purchase one.

I think there was discussion somewhere about aftermarket sound deadening, I was too lazy to search for it. I was going to wait until closer to production to worry about it. My requirement for the Elio is to have a car no louder than my current commuter. I don't expect that for $6800 either, so I am just hoping for an add on.

The firewall gets a lot of sound deadening material and seeing as how the Elio's firewall
is roughly half the width of a regular car, it would seem easier to deaden the sound at
that location. The floor often gets deadening material and undercoating also has
some deadening effect. Don't pay attention to prototypes-sound deadening is one
of the last things they worry about - mechanicals come first. I would be surprised if their
prototypes have had an undercoating applied.

The Elio would probably replace our Hyundai Elantra, so I am hoping it would be as quiet as that vehicle (which isn't great).

The arrogance of the "rich." The Elio will be an "instead of" car for me. I've owned a grand total of 5 cars over the past 2 decades, including the two that my wife and I currently own. I've spent a total of $14,600 for those 5 vehicles for an average price of $2880. 7 grand is not an AND purchase for me!

I asked this question of Mr. Vassallo when I met him in Chandler awhile ago. He said the P4 is pretty noisy as it is. They will be looking at Dynomat and/ or other sound deadening and insulation products for the final production model. Both are important for noise and insulation for the efficiency of the a/c and heat systems.
