Someone is going to see the vehicle in the near future and was inquiring about interesting questions to ask. I don't remember who it is.
Perhaps someone already knows.

Question: What is the required valve train servicing and how frequent?

Thanks.
Well I have not a clue, but be seeing them next Fri in West Palm beach, and I'll ask- wrote it down so when my lips move it might almost seem like I know what I'm asking!

Do the necessary oil changes (recommended fuel and tune ups).
There isn't much else TO do.
(not even sure why someone would ask - unless doing an engine rebuild)

I would like to like Electric. But battery technology just isn't there yet. and honestly, I'm amazed it isn't. Just like cell phones, the phones have outgrown the battery technology. For the electric cars, living in a wide metropolis like Dallas/Fort Worth, the limited range and lengthy charge times just aren't feasible. Hope someday that changes.
I feel battery powered cars are a pipe dream currently and they will not be a real green option for some time. About 85% of the USA uses fossil fuel (coal) to generate/create our electricity. The other is hydro generators (dams) and only about 1.5% comes from wind farms. I will not go into politics about our current administration about coal, solar and wind farms at this time... So we trade one carbon foot print for another. But the media acts like electricity is a clean source of energy without reviewing how it is created. It will need to be something like a nuclear power plant or other new technology that comes along to make electricity better than gasoline. Besides... the current chemicals in batteries are toxic and a fire hazard when charging or when damaged. It seems that this isn't noticed.

When you buy an electric car it is as if you purchased (up front) a storage tank full of fuel for the car's (or battery's) life. Then you have to spend more to be able to use that fuel (charging). This is one reason electric cars cost so much. Besides, you have to carry all the battery weight with you where ever you drive. This also reduced the vehicles range and performance.

Don't get me wrong... Electric motors are very efficient and deliver the full BHP thru their whole RPM range, unlike combustion engines. It is the creation of electricity that is the biggest issue... then it is the batteries.

Personally, being from Maine and all, I think the second gen Elio will actually be the "saileo".
This will catch on!

My wife and I decided to take a fun little drive over Easter weekend. We started our drive in Tucson. We drove to Wilcox and then through the San Carlos Indian reservation out to Globe. Finally, we drove from Globe through Mammoth and Oracle down into Oro Valley. We took a Road (Skyline) that follows the southern foothills of the Catalina Mountains to east side of Tucson where we live.

An EV would have never been able to do this 380 mile drive in 8 hours. Especially in with the spirited driving that we enjoyed during our drive. For the foreseeable future, I'm sticking to gas! Oh, and I'm sure my Elio will handle the drive just fine.

Tesla Model S could have done it
