How many times have you been in the drivers seat of any vehicle and exited out of the passenger side door? With all the cars having consoles now it is extremely unlikely anyone can.

If possible (will have to see final configuration) I would like to install an aftermarket sun roof that can be knocked out easily as an alternate emergency exit route.

More times than I care to count actually. Since the driver's door gets used the most, it wears out the fastest. More than one car I've owned past the point where the driver's door was ready to fall off and I'd taken to entering/exiting from the passenger side or Dukes of Hazzard style.
I love the idea of a Duke's entry/exit so I'm going out to give it a try. If it works I may not even need a door. If it doesn't this may be my last post.

Ray, I agree, it is a gamble., but I looked at it with the thought of 'Never gamble more than you can afford to lose'.
The 1k 'All in' I put up on 04.29.14 is behind me now. By the time my Elio (PTV) is ready, I'll carry cash or a cashiers check to La. to pick it up, using my brand of 'Creative Accounting'. I have almost quit smoking, 160$ a month, cut out all unnecessary cage driving, use MC for that, and started direct deposit to a (new) savings account. Add the 160$, per mo., and savings, per payday, will add up to an Elio plus Sunroof, trailer hitch, earlier 'sport' fenders, cruise control, etc. They can keep the credit card.

I like the idea of the 'Plant Tour', went to York, Pa., early this year and did the Harley 'Steel Toe' tour, was impressed.

A plant tour will offer a closeness to the 'birth' of my 'Dreamcicle' Elio. Yes it's a dream rite now but a dream I believe in and planning for.

A short range plan with a long range Goal.
Congrats on the Smoking issue! I like your smart creative accounting concept too. I never started.......and made a lot of purchases over my lifetime I justified using what would have been 'cigarette money'.

That's exactly how I quit smoking. I payed myself the cigarette money for personal discretionary use. Back then I was only paying 50 cents a back. LOL

since September 2013 (10 months) people have been asking for a second door..for the passenger on the curb side..for the safety of the kids, and if you watched the video of the green elio and the young girl getting out of the drivers wide door and walking into the traffic lane, you would see what we all wanted..
I would be ok with a half door like the Saturn couples had on the drivers side to allow the 2nd and third passengers out..
It is not like we haven't the time to reconsider the door and other ideas...14 months..right?

NOT gonna happen on the First Generation of the Elio. LIVE WITH IT; maybe 'future' ones, lets 'hope'. I still think 'Sliding Doors', Driver (rear sliding); and Passenger (forward sliding) would make a great 'future' LX model.

Looks slick. Has anyone heard them address egressing the vehicle if the driver side is damaged? Is this the only vehicle ever produced that is like that?

Cutting holes weakens the chassis. For Elio there isn't much chassis to begin with. I would think the driver would be close by to slide the seat forward or hold open the door and would be aware of any dangerous traffic. Plus exiting the vehicle, one would tend to do in a rearward direction, so oncoming traffic would be obvious. My humble opinion anyway.
