My mazda 2 has a much better design than the Honda and the advantage of this dash mounted gear shift is the linkage might be better for the 5 speed because it looks like less of an angle than the door mounted shifters they have now..
We all want the 5 speed to have a good, positive feel and not be rubbery...
The Elio has a few flaws that can be easily changed if the engineers decide.
Make the rear seat a bench..and make it hold two kids. This is THE FLAW that needs to be changed. Imagine the family with two small kids and all the things the mom must do during the week. One of the comments I read was of a woman who said there didn't seem to be enough room in the rear for her purse. A kid and the school back pack is a no brainer. I would gladly give up that 5 star guess for a 4 star and room for an extra person. It would be so much easier to show the wife that it hold 3 people and guess what, the rest of the world would buy one in a second.
It also needs to be a fold down rear bench, would solve a lot of storage problems..The weight should not be a issue because a bench might be lighter than a bucket, might be cheaper too, especially if lear makes the seats..
Oh, please don't tell me that the EM engineers cannot make the roll cage a foot wider if they have to, and mold a slightly different plastic body panel. Make the P6 the perfect second car..
EM now has the time to really create the PERFECT VEHICLE,
,Meet the brand new 2016 ELIO,! a 3 wheeled, 3 passenger, auto, air, tinted glass and cruise for only $8995
they would sell millions.............and in a heartbeat, the reservations would double or triple... money would come rolling in.
EM are you listening????
What about all the people with Three kids? Better make it a 4 seater...

EM could sell 10x the number of 3 people elios than 2 person elios, and common sense would tell me the young families and many others would consider a 3 person elio while rejecting a 2 person elio..
Mr. Elio understands this and his engineers are well aware of the tremendous sales a 3 person elio will generate..and now that we have the delay, don't be surprised to see one, trust me on that issue..
.it would too profitable to pass up. The board of directors will find a way.! It's called "out of the box thinking"...
go, go elio 3!
(make the 2 person elio the hot rod with turbo and wings and wheels and tires)

The problem with the Smart is not safety but rather it's butt ugly (IMO), overpriced, and low mpg for it's small vehicle class. The Elio is much Smarter for 2 in so many ways. The Smarter Car for Two! Marketing genius!

You are an Elio supporter and the 4 commuter vehicle needs you list echo Paul Elio's and he throws in anticipated 5 star safety. Your friends and family will understand and even like the Elio when they see yours.
I don't think it's any uglier than the current boxy style of SUV's, not that that is a very hard mark to beat. I agree about the price. I took one look at the sticker price and never looked again. But I stand by my point that a lot of buyers simply won't buy an ultra-small car because they don't believe in it's safety. The overall percentage of price and mpg complaints compared to perceived safety issues from the people I've ever talked to on the subject of the car is about 1%

Speaking of the SMART, and also the Fiat, the marketing strategy was create a 2 seater first and then build a larger 4 door. Obviously, the Elio will never have 4 doors, but IF the first one ever took off, a larger 3 seater would be the logical choice for their second model.

I believe you mean Ferdinand Porche?
Yeah, I use to believe it was Ferdinand too. But here is a picture of the true designer who had the great misfortune of being Jewish when Hitler was scrounging around for a "peoples car" in the early 1930s. Hitler is said to have trumped up charges against Josef and turned the plans over to Mr. Porshe to develop. At least that's the story as I read it. Josef got out Germany in time and lived to 1974.

Remind me again why 3 seats are better than 2.

If you want to haul the family, take the car. Going to work? Hello Elio.

You're this close to ignore.

Cheeseheadearl, some how your answer doesn't surprise me at all..
Where do we put the kids will be the first question asked when a young family looks at the elio...my backpack? is the other!
my mazda 2 has room for two people in the back seat and it about the same size as the elio, so just take out the bucket and put a bench in with two seat belts...and guess what, millions of more sales..it just makes sense...think about it..!
It is coming, why do you think the elio was delayed..to make the necessary changes to sell millions more WORLD WIDE!
It is time to get behind the idea and help EM make tens of thousand more elios, help elio succeed!
Pretend you are an elio salesperson and BRAG about the room for the kids...80 MPG AND ROOM FOR 3.
it is so obvious!
