As far as I know the rear windows not opening is simply a cost consideration as we have been told that venting windows are likely to be an option.

10-4 .... I'm not sure if we would want venting windows .... we seldom travel with our front or rear windows down, that's what heat and AC if for .... with most modern vehicles, vehicles get there best mileage with the windows up and the AC on

Noise can definitely be a factor that wears on you. I expect something in the econo-box class which I can live with. Hell most of the time I'll be driving it with the widows down and the sunroof open anyway. It's definitely going to be quieter than my motorcycle. If I'm going long distance I'll simply remove my hearing aids and things quiet down quite nicely. Sometimes being old has it's advantages. :)

seems like several of us have hearing issues ..:(.. firing way too many rounds without hearing protection in by youth has certainly affected mine .... on the other hand, my wife's hearing way tooooo good .... it will be interesting to see how she feels about whatever the noise level happens to be

Back in the 80's I fixed up several early 60's Chevy ll cars. We used plain old felt carpet padding, attached it to the floor with spray adhesive, placed another glued-on layer over the first, then put the carpet in. It really quietened down the noise, and it was VERY inexpensive to buy and a snap to put in.

There are several sound deadening products on the market.
On the car I'm building I'm putting it on the floor, inside the doors and roof.
With the Elio you could pull the seats and do the floor yourself.

when it rolls off the line, will the interior floorboard be carpeted or painted ?

Another good question! I'd vote for something like a rubberized truck bed liner type material. Did it to a Jeep Wrangler I had years ago. Just pulled the drain plugs in the floor, threw on a Bimini top, and ran it that way from Memorial day to Labor day. Cheap, indestructible, noise absorbing (not as much as carpet obviously), easy to keep clean.

You know road noise has never really been a concern to me. I am always listening to the vehicle for trouble sounds. I generally ride with the windows open, if I dont want to hear something outside, I just crank up the tunes and the noise is gone. This is n economy car and one that I want to enjoy the rode with, part of that ride is the road noise that advises us of the changing environment around us, like changing road surfaces, winds etc.

I think we will be pleasantly surprised with a reasonably quiet cabin based on the fact that Elio engineers said so.
Composite body, sound deadening floorboard, and the big factor that the drive wheels are detached from the cabin.
Personally prefer some road noise and feel of the road. I do not like quiet jet smooth rides.......unless I'm in a plane.
