The ridiculous iPod & iPhone rule comment caught my eye. My policy as an employer would be employees check them in when punching in to work and pick them up when they check out for the day. This will no doubt be EM's policy for plant workers to eliminate employee's hands free personal phone conversations while building our Elios.

That was our policy at my company but then phones became "lost". The best boss i had while i worked at that company didn't care what we did as long as production numbers were met. Everything was met and even had the best numbers vs all 3 shifts until they decided his lack of a college degree made him not capable of doing the job he already was doing. College degree person came in and commenced making changes and production dropped in half. :confused:

Actually, I don't have a cell phone, never did. And I agree about the "not being allowed in the building" to a point, particularly ones that can take pictures. Not that the F-15 is a top secret project, but still...

I do, however, have about $8k in audiobooks and an Ipod. Only two fiction in the entire collection (Atlas Shrugged, and A Cloud Atlas....strangeo_O ). I use earbuds which make fantastic noise protection when not on (comfy and effective), and I never had them up so loud I couldn't hear someone trying to get my attention.

I had a fleeting vision of Goofyone hopping around outside the stalls, flapping his arms up and down, with his trousers round his ankles.... :eek:

I think in UK you'd end up getting tazered and made to sign the sex offenders register! But at least it would be an Eco friendly situation, LOL!! :D
No, he's not flopping around looking trying to trigger the light. He's flopping around trying to send a message to the guy in the next stall...

OTOH, my employer provides me with a cell phone and requires me to keep it with me 365/365. I do get lots of "standby/on call" days, but I'm always on call. No real complaints from me though.
Yes, some jobs require cell connection. However, I had a HVAC Tech out to repair my furnace at a $60 per hour labor charge. 15 minutes of the service call was the technician scheduling service for his personal car and chatting with his girlfriend. I deducted the time wasted. I'm happy to never have been an employer.
My motto: Please use your cell phones responsibly and never while driving. The hands free argument, but still distracting. The opportunity for yet another mandate for personal and public safety.

I have experienced this problem a number of times. There is nothing like being caught with your pants around your ankles inside a pitch black windowless room. You are left sitting there wondering if anyone will come in anytime soon and trigger the lights or you get the opportunity to try and clean up in the dark and move around outside the stall so the sensor will turn the damn lights back on. :eek::rolleyes::D

Maybe an audio alert system could've saved you? Yell out, or a "blast from the past" could enlighten your present view?
Just puttering around "could" keep your day bright??
:eek::D

" come in anytime soon and trigger the lights" hopefully that's the only reason you want someone coming into a dark windowless room!

why not put out mandates to eliminate all distractions in the name of personal and public safety .... no radio, no GPS, no gauges on the dash, no road signs, no billboards, no passangers, above all no children, no good looking girl on the side of the road, no other cars within sight, etc, etc, etc

You're on a roll, ever so slowly, going................ ease up (the good looking girl should be on the passenger seat (or behind in your E), not on the side of the road!
