It's nice, but a little too pricey.

Some more new old news from Google alerts. I like the Red Elio.

3 Wheeled Car By Elio Motors Delayed Till 2015

Staff are on the project but no activity has started. The story of the Elio 3 wheeler car dates back to 2012. There have been a series of delays and the Company reasons that it is not easy for anyone to launch a new vehicle company. The costs are high and there are many activities involved.

The Company has voiced its plans to hire about 800 workers in the month of June 2015. The production is likely to start in September. The Company till date has managed to raise $55 and it has collected over 15,000 deposits. Elio Motors had promised car enthusiasts that it initially had the plans to have these 3 wheelers built in Pontiac in Michigan. The car was supposed to be in the hands of their customers by 2012.

It is true that $55 million has been collected however Elio still is short of its starting budget estimated at $200 million. There is anticipation of a $7.5 million investment of cash by Stuart Lichter an industrial developer that has been hired by owners to oversee developments.
With the constant delays: "It will be ready when it's ready".... Why not just say THAT, instead of stating DATES..... and NOT meeting them? Probably won't 'sell' many reservations that way. They still need a running engine/powertrain.... and only have shown a 'caste' (un-machined) engine block; need to build and TEST "18 to 26 vehicles" (made in Mich.) BEFORE they 'finalize' the design. Then and only then can they hire workers and begin the 're-tooling' of the Plant. Legal hurdles, probably not; FINANCIAL hurdles definitely, Takes a heap of money (and 18 to 26 engines) to 'build and test' all those "E" series vehicles! I'd expect MORE DELAYS on the horizon. Hope I still have my Driver's License by then!

What we need to see are articles/interviews on PROGRESS, not DELAYS. ie. How is the 'Engine' coming along; machined, assembled, running, being tested??? Are any P5 or "E" Series vehicles assembled and 'waiting' for the engine??? How about some PICTURES of their 'build status'.... to show that SOMETHING is being accomplished, besides the "Road Show"..... and selling T-Shirts!

Where do I stand now?

I joined this forum board a few weeks back so I could gauge whether to go 'all in'--as I have been following Elio Motors for years and did not have a good 'feel' for when they'd actually reach production. At the time of joining, I was leaning 75% toward committing to at least $500 all in.

But after all these delays and seeing no evidence of concrete build plans (merely assertions and feel good buzzwords), at this time I am leaning 75% toward making no deposit at all.

I am open and flexible to change when the data indicate a more favorable and realistic plan from EM. If I see REAL, on-the-ground progress, I could go as much as $1,000 all in.

Why not just make a refundable deposit? and get the best of both worlds? if it happens you're on board, if not then you get your money back..

I'm glad you have come to a decision. I'm sure you are relieved to not have that weight of potentially loosing your deposit hanging over your head. As has been said so many times, If you can't afford to loose it, OR if you are just not comfortable, don't commit. You are probably among the 75% of people who are content to wait until they actually see them "in production"...nothing wrong with that.

No Risk - No Reward. For taking a risk and supporting the development of this historic vehicle I expect my reward will be driving my Elio before Christmas next year
