It isn't all about cost. The Elio will be American made and there is a cult like following no other prospective Eco vehicle has. I went all in in Oct 2013 and my confidence has continually improved. I upgraded twice and expect my $1K reservation number in the big release on Monday. I believe Elio will be the first to market and draw the most interest and I am convinced that will Elio and not some Chinese or Indian company will be the one that leads this personal transportation revolution
I think Elio will be produced and our orders will be filled. Now if they are still in business 3 years from now is a different story. I also think if they aren't it will be because of a buy out. My uncle told me when he put up my all in fee if they get their doors open they'll have a good run for at least a few years. It's almost definite the factory will start production now.

Many people keep talking about the Elio 'car'. It is a motorcycle, and as such will not have to be competing with the big boys. Many automotive standards do not apply to this vehicle. Think about it as a Harley or Indian or any of the others. They do not compete with, nor do they answer to the automotive industry. They have their own stores, not like car dealerships. The Tesla issues that came up stalled and threatened them because they are competing within the industry. Elio will not run into the same obstacles or threats that Tesla did. My confidence level is still at 10, and I've been all in for awhile. I see nothing but positives. The Pep Boys deal (like them or not) is a giant leap forward, and even though not everyone has access to a PB, I'm sure other arrangements/partnerships will be forged to assure service availability. Call me a dreamer, but I believe this vehicle will be built, and will be successful. New prototypes are on the horizon, and Shreveport will begin to be re-tooled once final design is determined. People complain about the 'anticipated 5 star crash rating', but until the product is done, it's all based on computer simulations, thus the 'anticipated' part. But remember, the Elio is not mandated to do crash tests, yet they plan to do them anyway. IMO, that speaks volumes about their intentions and their determination to get this built and satisfy their customers. I was probably an 8 when I first jumped on board, but I'm at 10 now.
I agree with you (and not because I have an '02 VTX either). Elio shows a fortitude in even mentioning safety testing. Maybe it is to assure people it is safe but hopefully, it is because he wants it to be really safe. The Elio is in competition with the big 3 in at least a small way. The Elio may steal some basic Fiesta or Sonic sales as people find the Elio to be a cheaper alternative. They won't make a huge impact there but I can almost see where it would make sense for one of the big 3 to either buy or copy Elio to help get their CAFE numbers up. Of course, that only counts if it is classified as a car... and that could get expensive!

There is a movement to buy American and this will be hopefully a tread .Let me explain that I'm an industrial Contractor who has branched out into Manufacturing over the past 10 years .The things we manufacture can not be practically built anywhere else. We're also protected by "Buy American" clauses on most of our products .There is nothing that Paul Elio can build that can't be built cheaper by someone else .I do in fact hope that the Elio does become very successful. There is a universal rule that is posted on my office wall "When people don't understand the product or quality ,they buy price".

In all these so called smarter than America countries , none have produced a Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, or William Lear etc. Germany beat us to the automobile by a few years but thankfully we were able by the hair of our chiny chin chin to produce and stop them from destroying the world with the nuclear bomb..

Several other countries have very smart people.....Want to talk about a smart person and the nuclear bomb?....how about Einstein?

There is a thing called competitive advantage. In economics it makes more sense if you can do something of equal quality at a cheaper price than you should do it. Many US companies outsourced their work because labor was cheap. Due to recent economic conditions, they have actually started coming back for labor.

The US economy has went from manufacturing to more service now. Just the way economics is and it works in cycles.

You were talking about how no other countries produced gate, jobs, etc.... Einstein cannot be in etc because he is German. We did not "produce" Einstein. Einstein helped the U.S more than the U.S. helped Einstein.
