The other danger is from following traffic. A following driver might see you as two tail/brake lights with a high center brake light not knowing the center light is 8 feet closer than the outboard lights. Invitation to be rear ended. Something to think about.
Dude, if the people behind you are travelling so close and so fast that 8 feet is going to make a difference as to when they apply the brakes, they are travelling too freakin' close AND too freakin' fast!

The smaller your vehicle, the less respect you get from other drivers. I had no problem in my F-350. But in the same town, drivers are horrible when I'm in my Prius Hybrid. I really wonder if they'll give me enough room for the front wheels of the Elio when they inevitably pass me for having the audacity to obey the speed limit.

Help on basics please:

Is the final assembly in Shreveport or just the motors?

Is the estimated start of production still Fall 2016?

How will the vehicles be delivered? Are they stiill contemplating a presence in strip centers or has that changed? If not, will they be company owned or franchise dealers?

As of now [IIRC].

Final assembly of the "production" models will be built in Shreveport, LA.

They're still stating production start in the 4th qtr of 2016 [which could mean any time up to Dec. 31, 2016].

No change in their distribution model that I've heard. Small strip-mall based showrooms. Your Elio delivered/equipped the way you want it the next day.

  1. Shreveport -- Final assembly
  2. Estimated start of production -- near end of December 2016
  3. Delivery --
From Shreveport to one of seven marshaling centers
(where options are added)
From marshaling center to point of delivery
Hope that helps.

I think it would go a long way towards acceptance if we got a good video of the Elgin dash in action, with the gauges moving.

There is a video somewhere in this forum of the gauges moving. It appears that it was taken at one of the tour stops. Not sure where it is, but I will look around and see if I can find it.

This is the one I was thinking of.

Still don't hate it!:D
One improvement they could make is to remove the speedo mph above 100, and space the remaining numbers out to allow for a more accurate indication of the speeds people will actually be travelling at. Honestly, the ONLY time an Elio will exceed 120mph, is if it's falling off a very large cliff.
