One thing that concerns me, is what engines have IAV produced so far?

For example, Seadoos run Rotax engines, and you can look them up and they produce aircraft engines and supply all the engines to BRP, for Seadoo's, Cam-Am's, Snow Mobiles, etc.

But what current products are IAV engineered or produced engines in? When I look them up all I see is they are an engineering firm in the auto industry.

Going "out of favor" not gone. Most likely due to the nitrogen tanks and related equipment to seat the liners, also I said the "consumer" level engines, IE hi volume low cost.

For example, the GM 2.4 L850 is a cast inplace liner. Polaris uses that engine in the Styrker.

IAV is a design outfit and that is their speciality - design, modeling, and testing. 5700 employees, 50% owned by VW and 20% by Continental. Unlikely they will actually build it - that'll be outsourced to a manufacturer once the design has been finalized. All this via a quick (s)troll of their well-annotated website. So when EM (and we) say "IAV engine" it would probably be better stated as "IAV-designed engine". Nevertheless, IAV is for real.

I am one degree of separation from Bill through four different people, so it's kinda funny to think about him bankrolling this. One of my pals just met with him this morning. We refer to him as the Great One, largely because of his philanthropy and his interest in funding human health concerns. Cars don't seem to fit Bill, but cars that emit less global warming gas per year than a cow has the ring of something that might actually catch his eye. That's also the reason I mentioned Melinda's checkbook, not his :)

Now that you mention it though, this might be just the kind of thing he would do. Bill and Warren Buffet are buddies - shared views in many ways and both are avid bridge players. If I learned that either of them were investing it wouldn't surprise me in the least. I've always said that EM is an angel investor play instead of a VC play, and these are the kind of guys Paul is surely hustling for his start-up funds. Maybe that's why Paul is really playing up the social good angle. Hadn't thought of that before.
Warren Buffet funded Chinese Electric Car Maker BYD maybe he would have interest in funding a new revolutionary startup USA Car Company...........a Billionaire average guy personality backing the average guy............a win win.

True, it's a proven tech , but it's not an iron liner. here is a link to some info on IAV. 30 years in the field , 5000 on the payroll, I don' think they will release a poor engine design. Again I, personally, would prefer liners due to their known failure mode. But then, I dislike and mistrust "hi tech".
I basically don't care what they use as long as it works(for a long time), and I think they are qualified to know "what works". Bottom line Elio costs less than some hi end "crate engines" alone, it will be built to optimize life/mpg/cost, not a spec sheet to drool over.
Below from a 2011 newspaper "googled" That last is interesting.
" IAV’s clients include Ford Motor Co., GM, BMW AG, Toyota Motor Corp. and Volkswagen AG, among other automakers, the supplier says on its Web site. Volkswagen owns half of IAV Group Worldwide."

I say, lets try to keep the money grubbing liberal socialists out of the picture! When production is about to begin, give the all in crowd the option to pay in the $5800 balance . 10,000 x $5800 = $58 million. Or give the Elio buyers the option to be able to purchase 500 shares in the company. but keep the big money funds out.

IIRC, a while back, Paul said that he has been approached with offers (no names given) but they all wanted too much control. Many of us have admitted that EM could justify asking for a higher price...altho we wouldn't like it. That is just what would happen. Billionaires don't "get that way" by being "generous" with their money.
