Received a nice e-mail from EM today thanking me for my suggestions. What were they? Same as always. Now that we have about 15 months before an elio is ready for the public. Now is the time to make the changes the engineers should have made at the beginning.
1. move the gear shift lever from the right door and put it on the right dash.. Many cars have that now.
2.widen the frame from right behind the driver by 1 ft on either side reinforcing the roll cage if necessary.
3. Replace the rear bucket with a bench seat..I drive a mazda 2 and my rear bench seat is 48" across with two seat belts.. snug for adults but great for kids. I am thinking world wide distribution and it would be perfect for the rest of the world.
4. a small right rear passenger door on the curb side for safe entry and exit..plus a 3 person elio would sell millions more.
5. Yellow
6. the widening of the elio at the rear would increase the trunk hatch space and a rear window could be installed at low cost.

Volkswagen made millions of bugs without changing year to year and I think a 3 person elio would do the same..
Can you share the link you use to make your suggestions?

We are probably too late in the game to make changes to turn it into a 3 seater. but I agree that the biggest thing that will limit widespread adoption of the Elio is limited seating. People tend to forget that the VW was designed to be a family car. It had as many seatbelts as my Chrysler.

Signed up about a week ago. Seems to be a lot of angst about production dates here. You don't sell fine wine before its time. Takes time for the sperm to reach the egg (and a lot of money in the case of the Elio). Today is one day closer to production. PATIENCE.gif Click on picture to read

Well if you have been following the Elio for years, and had a low 'reservation #'; perhaps you would understand some of the 'angst'. ANOTHER delay (now 1 year++), although expected, is disappointing!

Sooner is better than later, but a good product is more important. Always appreciate and read your opinions.

Elio's concept is to provide a much needed affordable, functional, high mpg commuter vehicle since 95% of most daily commutes involves a single occupant. It is what is......a perfect commuter or functional vehicle for around town errands. If you need three seats park your motorcycle and drive your car.

The problem is, regardless of price, most people are going to assume that they can't afford a separate car for commuting vs transporting the family. That's why SUV' s are so popular, they get you to work, the kids to soccer practice, the dog to the vet, transport a week's worth of groceries, take the lawn mower to get a tune up, etc. Even if it's cheaper in the long run, most people will look at the upfront cost of owning an additional vehicle.
