I also agree we need to cool our jets for awhile on speculating where Elio is going. We're only depressing ourselves talking about the delays.
I still feel the pile of red tape is the primary reason for the delays but realize funding is a big reason and perhaps the biggest.
I seem to be in a very small group of refundable deposits, but DID go large, hoping Elio makes it to production.
I've never bought a lottery ticket in my life and never will, because I look at that as a form of entertainment (with no chance of winning),
but do not want to consider Elio a lottery. Let's just keep a positive attitude.......it all may work out in the end.
The biggest issue I see is that in reality we have nothing better to do but sit around speculating on what could be going on. As this is a forum for discussion that is perfectly ok but we do need to step back every once in a while and look at things in perspective.
OK, Now it's time to turn that fading euphoria into action. Put our input in. We have legislators to contact, laws that need abolished, a Automobile Association to reign in (huled). And deep pockets to twist.
Something to keep in mind when comparing Elio to an established car company is that by the time they announce a vehicle a very large group of people and companies have already been working on it for several years. They also already have production lines in place to build it and a network of dealerships to sell to the end users. You do not really get to see any of the actual process it take to bring a vehicle from concept form to a real product available for sale.
Elio on the other hand has presented us with a concept car and we are getting to see some of what it takes to take that and make it into a real product. This process will include delays caused by numerous issues and even the possibility that funding runs out before they can bring it to market.
I am trying to be realistic about the situation and while I still feel good about my $1K investment I am fully prepared for delays and even the possibility of everything falling through and all I may have to show for all this is a very expensive T-shirt and bumper sticker.

It's not funny at all. Both Ford and BMW looked seriously into the prospects of high efficiency three wheeled vehicles, had some very good prototypes too. But lawyers and red tape killed it for both companies. Bean counters played a role too. With all due respect, that's a very funny way of thinking! Don't you realize that if Elio was successful in producing it and made money out of it, they will have all the exposure in the world for everybody to sue them because by then they will have the assets that you're talking about! They might as well not produce it if they felt they can get sued in the future!
EM had this concept since 2008 from what I gather here. Six years, really? They are not re-inventing the wheel! Using existing parts! Most of the 50 States already approved the no helmet on the Elio car(correct me if I'm wrong)! Tesla motors took a little longer w/ their unlimited resources because they needed a better battery technology to run their car...Elio runs on 3 cylinder engine!
Again, if I have to bet, the big 3 and their Japanese and Korean counterparts are keeping a close eye on EM because whos' to stop them from making the same 3 wheeler if the Elio car turns out to be a success!!!
