got it- glove box-
"Maybe for the same reason people park in the Driveway, and drive on the Parkway. Or the way people can go crazy from the Deafening Silence, or buy something that's New and Improved. Then again, maybe it has something to do with a package that's sent overseas on a ship is Cargo, and a package that is sent domestically in a car is a Shipment. You could say that Common sense is the norm, but then why is it so rare."

Ummm...
I guess you also missed my suggestion about a reasonable win-win compromise too.
It's a few posts back (in both poll threads) If you want to take a look.

"And your objective, other than to make people unhappy and feed your ego, is...........??"

Ah Jees. Now we're down to attempting to put a cheap-shot turn-about spin on this whole thing.
William, you must be just about out of reasonable arguments to have to resort to that.

However, I think you just made my case.

Considering the fact that the majority of people who've voted have indicated a dislike for the Elgin dash, shouldn't that exact question be directed at PE and EM and not at me?
I mean really. Read your question again in that light.

And yeah, I'd actually gladly take your example over the Elgin if it were the only other choice.
I like their VHX-1017 a lot better though.

If you feel that strongly about it, write a well thought out letter to Paul and send it "Certified Mail Return Receipt requested"
Post a copy here and a copy of the receipt when you get it. Then we may think you are serious.
If you want me to look at your post, provide the number.
I have given up chasing malcontents down their rabbit holes.

RU,
I have nothing but the utmost respect for you and your opinion.
Though I have no clue what you meant by "New, but I give him a polite, take on trolling."
Not getting that. Especially since I've been a member here longer than you have.

The rest of what you say is nothing but the truth.

However, a savy investor (on this level and not a casual one on a "just a few shares of public stock" level) could give a rat's behind about the virtue of PE's gesture if it has the slightest chance of alienating the present or a future customer base and/or it shows any sacrifice of good business sense for the sake of sentimentality.

The dash gets me less cranked than the devout who honestly seem to want to grant PE sainthood and infallibility.

William,
I just called you out on attempting to put a turn-about spin on my reasoning in the last exchange and you just did it again!

You basically didn't discuss my last response and did the equivalent of saying, "Na,na,na,na,na, I'm picking up my toys and going home!"
Stay on subject if you want to discuss the issue and stop (second time) doing this... "You just want to make me change my mind about liking the dash. You're just a (what did you call me?) a malcontent, so if you feel that strongly then PROVE it." thing.

I ain't provin' nuttin' honey. I put it all together for you in the last 20 or so exchanges. If you can't crank it back far enough to read my reasonable solution/compromise, that's on you. If you want to resort to "no you are!" exchanges, I'll make this my last direct response to you. You won't have to worry about a direct "What's up doc?" if you do just give up and choose not to chase what you can't catch.

Truely guy, I did appreciate you posting the alternate dash.

Regards.

I'm not an electronics guy, but it would seem to me with all the touch-screen technology and wicked realistic graphics, they could just put screen in there and let the customer pick from a dozen or so configurations (maybe even downloadable from their website). "One screen fits all" to keep cost down, and little bit of software magic to make it custom. Just thinking out loud...or typing out loud as it were.

gotta now add to my self-banned topics of discussion -the Elgin dash. My list keeps getting longer but I do feel safe on the recipe thread!
Have at it, enjoy, and be polite, I enjoy the banter

I'll be over. You certainly are an interesting Wabbit.
Leave the light on for me.

Just a thought for those who truly cannot stand the Elgin dash.

It has been pointed out, the Elgin dash functions with a numbered plate in place of the needle pointer most of us are used to. The plate rotates and the indicater remains in place! So, how hard will it be to remove the chrome pasties covering the rotating plate, remove the plate and replace it with a needle? The plate itself can be placed under the needle, OR used as a template, allowing a person to properly mark the speed indicating in an accurate fashion?

I've said it before, I'll go with the Elgin dash and give it time and actual use before deciding if I will replace it or not. It can't be worse than a digital dash, right?

Not sure that this is done via rotating plate. Why use an analogue disk, if you end up with a digital display? A small rounded digital display will make it appear as if the numbers rotate. Look at the radius of the small (in the prototype) display on top vs the radius of the instrument it sits in.
