THanks for posting. The P4 and P5 look very similar, but I absolutely like the look of the P4/P5 over the P3. I actually hate the look of the P3.
I too dislike the look of the P3 but it does have some specific good qualities:

Diagonal coil over shocks
Conformal shaped fenders

New Mexico sounds great. California is a joke of a state when it comes to our laws and politics. I'm not even sure how your situation would work here, but I know of people who were going to break into someone else's house to burglarize them, fell through a roof window and broke some bones, then sued the home owner and won. What the f- kind of s- is that?!

Perhaps I'll add an alarm with it. If Elio offers an alarm and it's not very good, maybe I'll just buy a Viper alarm.

Do you know if the Skyzmatic thing is a one time payment, or a monthly payment? And do you need an ipad to have Skyzmatic?
It is monthly and any cell phone will connect to it. Basically, it will connect to the internet via its he Elio with Skyzmatic) cell signal and alert you to what is going on... or, you can check your Elio's surroundings before heading home after a long shift. That might be a good safety feature for high schoolers who work at he mall... It also automatically begins recording when the car is bumped. Back when I was working at Circuit City (way, way back) one of he sales guys told a story about going out to the parking lot to find his car gone. In it's place was his Viper alarm nicely placed in his parking spot. I always liked my alarm though and I'm not real keen on paying to use the Skyzmatic system but I do like some of it's functionality. Also, I'm not an Apple bandwagoneer.

I understand many cars are stolen in order to resell the parts off of it, not the entire vehicle. Since the Elio is made up of 90% existing parts already used in other vehicles, does this mean it is extremely tempting to thieves? The used parts can be sold for other vehicles.

While my stolen car was being repaired at a shop, the shop employee told of a stolen trans-am they were replacing parts on including the two T-top panels. It is standard to use used parts. When the car owner came in to pick up his car, he identified the T-top panels as being the panels from his stolen car---his initials were carved in them.

interesting question .... considering the legal consequences, the only parts of an Elio that might be worth enough money to justify spending the time and effort to steal would be the motor and transmission .... I suspect that it will take a good while to for there to become a black market for those parts

Exactly, the car is very inexpensive and once out, everywhere. It will not be a high theft item. Nore will it's parts. Not that you shouldn't be causious.

You go to jail for the same number of years for stealing a $7000 car as a $50000 car. Which would you steal? Also the fact that they will be so rare for several years. In many small towns there may only be one or two. So basically if you have one it is the one that was stolen. Car thieves don't want that. They want to steal a car that looks just like every other car on the road. Joy riding kids on the other hand is a totally different ball game.

I may cancel my reservation in hopes of snagging enough parts of the street to custom build my own Elio. I'm thinking $3800 max.
