On this thread there are a lot of people; talking about a lot of options.... they are not going to get. Ok, I'll play. Here's an option I would love to have under the hood of my Elio and I would be happy to pay extra for it. Yeah, I know, gas mileage would suffer a bit, but man, would it go!

That was going to be my 1st suggestion (lock box under front seat) but rather than cable it, mount it on locking rails; 2nd make a lockbox in the right side cutaway. It all depends on how accessible you need it from the driver seat.

...."It all depends on how accessible you need it from the driver seat."....
If you can't easily reach it, and access it, from the drivers seat what's the sense of having it?

I don't think it's about accessibility, but security when you have to leave it in your car.
Legally, in Washington state, it just needs to be "out of sight" and behind a lock--this means I can throw it under the seat, close the windows and lock the door and I'll be legal. However, I like having a locked glovebox or other layer of security, since people break into cars and I'd hate if one of my firearms got out onto the street. So yeah, I'll figure something out.

I also throw gloves in the glovebox, so that would be nice.

If it's just to store like that, make the floor for the rear seat the box, cover it in carpet. The back seat passenger would lose that bit of legroom, but it only has to be, what, 2 inches deep? Don't go down under the floor, you build it to sit on top of the floor, and make it fit the whole area so a casual observer would never see it.

Trash the dash...definitely. Unfortunately, it reminds Paul of dear old dad. (There's another guy in this country who wrote a book "Dreams from My Father" and he won't do what the majority want, either. So, in both cases, we'll just have to accept misguided decisions.)

I like the Elgin dash :)
I like it, too. It's different, like the Elio, and I like that Paul is basically dedicating this vehicle to his Dad. How many car companies have done that? He's on a personal mission, and this car is clearly personal to him.

As long as it has appropriate increments, I'm fine with it. I suspect the Elio won't be a speed demon, so changes in the speedometer should be relatively gradual and easy to read.

After it's in production; and in the hands of the owners is when there is a chance of it being changed, and not before; unless some kind of overwhelming epiphany happens with PE to get him to change his mind.
I know, go gift him $200mil with no strings attached except for one; he has to change the dash; that's about the only way I could see it happening. :thumb:

Maybe our best hope is that the NHTSA deems it unsafe and won't allow the Elio on the road with such a ridiculously tiny read-out.

It's no longer his personal choice, since he's going public.
