The one thing that is certain -- Elio-approved aftermarket suppliers have to agree to accept a max markup of 20%. That's kind of amazing, but it's true... at least for now.
I don't believe that is accurate. EM's statement about "20% margin" was directed towards "OEM" (Original Equipment Suppliers), and is double the current industry standard. "Aftermarket" has not (traditionally) been connected to the vehicle manufacturer. There are exceptions like Shelby, Roush, and others. Those Limited editions are not done at the factory, but shipped elsewhere for mods. If you have priced these types of "package deals" you have to be aware that the price difference is WAY MORE than 10% over cost. Someone else here mentioned "300% markup". In my experience, sometimes it is MORE!
IIRC, Em's plan is to take a "hands-off" approach, making a reasonable percentage from the sale of extras. Even now, they are inviting aftermarket manufacturers to submit concepts that "could be" offered & installed thru the marshaling centers. The "Skyz system" is an example of this. At this point in time...purely concept. And $2,000?!?! Definitely more than 20% markup.

Just a quick comment about the Elgin dash. I was having a conversation, at the LA show, with Jerome and Paul, when I brought up "the subject." Jerome got this "cloudy" look on his face. He said, "It amazes me that people on the forums will "incessantly badmouth" this one design feature and overlook the tremendous achievements we have made...It hurts." I said, "Paul, are you worried about losing those ungrateful people as customers?" He just chuckled, took a big swallow from his Starbucks, and said, "No. those people won't get the Elgin dash...OR the Elio. We decided to accidentally loose all of their reservation info. Spot in line, money paid...all of that." I stared in disbelief, "Aren't you afraid of lawsuits?" "Nope" he replied, "They read the fine print. We didn't guarantee them anything!" Then we all started laughing hysterically and "hi-five-ing" .................. .................. .................. ...................................................................................................... and then I woke up! Oh, my! what a DREAM that was!...:lie:...I wasn't even AT the LA show! :pound::boink:

Hey, not all dreams happen at night! ;):p:D

I wonder how long before that ends up on Facebook as "the truth"...

Is there very much storage accessible as you sit in the drivers seat? I know I use my Miata's passenger seat for storage quite a bit. Might be a habit I will be changing with the Elio. (Remember, fold down seat put coat in back of you before sitting in vehicle.)

I carry a backpack to hold all my stuff, so I already know where it's going during my daily commute (tossed into the back seat!) My concern is the lack of glovebox. I wear a concealed handgun most of the time, but on the occations when I can't legally do so (such as visiting a hospital) I need a place to lock it out of sight. I may have to keep a lock box cable-tied under the seat. Safety first!

That was going to be my 1st suggestion (lock box under front seat) but rather than cable it, mount it on locking rails; 2nd make a lockbox in the right side cutaway. It all depends on how accessible you need it from the driver seat.

When CCW first came around here, I thought that I'd see a lot of people looking for a car mounted "gun safe" just for that purpose, but I never did. I know I plan on installing one in mine once I finally go take the required class to carry. It may even be built into my seat.
