Do you mean to tell me, this an automatic clutched manual transmission? Not a true automatic transmission, with a torque converter and valve body? I know nothing about such a beast, with the possible exception of the 70's VW autostick that was a piece of crap.

That is correct. Though I think the mechanics of this system will be very different than the VW autostick.

Ask yourself what CVT stands for and why your car does what it does.

I was planning on an automatic, and by that I meant a true automatic transmission, torque converter, valve body, clutch packs and all. Now I might have to get my left knee rebuilt again and teach the wife how to drive a stick shift.

......I do wonder if EM will offer kits to change your transmission type after the sale. That would really make this the vehicle you can have any way you want at any time.

I did ask that question at the GA airshow and Jerome said that the AMT is not just a "bolt on" conversion but, there are many components that are installed "inside the transmission." Not what I wanted to hear but it was a definite answer.

Why? What is it you don't think you will like about it? I don't think you will notice that it is not a regular automatic.

Funny how perception works. I am tickled pink that a manual is even offered. An AMT would be just fine. 99.9% work just like they where designed to.

Didn't AMT build model cars in the 60's? I just don't know anything an automatic manual transmission. I do know how to operate a clutch and shift on my own. What else uses an AMT and where can I test drive one?
