Seriously? The Gas Cap Has A Real Unmodifiable Reason To Be On The Wrong Side?

While I am lazy :) my reason is I drive a lot and it shaves time off my stops. Convenience my friend, in my current car gas stops are blisteringly fast.
Also I am in Arizona, we have a lot of wind and dust storms. I suppose I have a really good grip, when I grab a handle it stays grabbed.
But...think of the time saved on those extra days you get to drive right past the station.

Along with not having to wait for 15+ gallons of fuel to pump before the nozzle clicks off.

I think they should have put a gas door on both sides!
NOW, let's talk about your "mother-in-law" asleep in the back seat when your Elio catches fire...................now, THAT would be "mixed emotions!" :)
Bad experience! I had a 1986 chevy 4x4 with dual tanks... The horror... 8mpg... vapor lock prone... *sniffle*

On the in-law, locking seatbelts? :p

You all have correctly imagined that the gas cap on the side it is on is safer when filling it when you run out of gas on the road. However the example of pulling your wife from a burning car is unthinkable for me. I am recently divorced.
And then others of you have argued that I should never run out of gas, and in my 40+ years of driving I have not, so I was thinking mainly from filling up at the pump... The safer side would be the driver's side. Then in the most typical scenario you would get out on the pump side of the vehicle and stay there out of the craziness of some filling stations' traffic.
And also I would get a visual reminder that my gas cap was off if I went into the station to get something when I came back to the car...
I really like the benefit of not having to go through a divorce...you say the backseat passenger is sitting on the gas tank??.

Haw-haw-haw! Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Twice. At least you still have your sense of humor. Don't worry guys your Elio will put smiles on your faces no matter where the gas cap is located.

Seem like I'm always waiting in line at SAM's Club, (everybody pulls in to fill up going the same direction and everyone exits going the same direction), with other cars who have the gas cap on the drivers side. Is that like a company standard now? The other side of the pumps, folks with the gas cap on the passenger side is usually vacant. It would be a quick in out for me if the Elio's gas cap were on the passenger side.

Cap placement varies even within the same manufacturer. My F350s' is on the left, my wife's Explorer is on the right.

Rethinking the location of the fire extinguisher. Door post or footwell is usually good, but with restricted access to the back seat and in the confines of that narrow body, I'd want to test fit it first to be sure I don't anchor it where I'll smack it with my head or shins in an accident.

Actually, a small two to five pound 10-B:C dry chemical extinguisher is a great idea for any car. My employers used to require them in our company cars, and I was happy to comply. I've seen too many nice cars burn to the ground as the result of a small underhood fire while the owner could do absolutely nothing about it but pace up and down. The fire department is terrific, but unless you catch fire in front of the firehouse, your car is going to be trashed.

BTW, if you buy an extinguisher for your home or car, go to your local firehouse and ask them to teach you how to use it. Most will make an appointment to put on a public class for civic groups or just a group of neighbors free of charge. There's WAY more involved than what appears on the label directions. They'll demonstrate and let you put out a couple of contained fires yourself so that you have the confidence and the knowledge you need. Take them a cake or homemade cookies. That's how you say "thank you". :)

EastCoast, welcome to the forum and congratulations on jumping right in with your comments. I use Sam's club and like you try to get in the right side fill lane because it is usually open. I have no problem dragging the hose across my rear window to fill it up. Hope you will use the forum search function to quickly learn all about the Elio. We are a helpful friendly bunch and welcome your comments and questions. Enjoy the forum and the Elio experience
