Seriously? The Gas Cap Has A Real Unmodifiable Reason To Be On The Wrong Side?

It needs to be away from the only exit door the vehicle has... fire, bad... fire in front of only door while your kid is asleep in the backseat, very bad. Besides, it really doesn't matter in the "filling up" realm unless you are on the side of the road. Sure, you get out on the left but you are only exposed to traffic for a second or two. Then, you can be on the safer side while filling it up. I'm guessing that you don't live in a windy area because I've seen plenty of people who get surprised by the wind and hit the pump guard with a door. Why does the filler "need" to be on the left? My truck is on the left and my wife's car is on the right. They are both very simple to fill and I can't see it really mattering. I guess a REALLY lazy or handicapped person might care, but why should anyone else? Personally, I'd rather have the stinky nozzle away from my door. And that's as good a reason as any. Well, that and the whole engineering thing where it's easier to go down the side without a door part.
While I am lazy :) my reason is I drive a lot and it shaves time off my stops. Convenience my friend, in my current car gas stops are blisteringly fast.
Also I am in Arizona, we have a lot of wind and dust storms. I suppose I have a really good grip, when I grab a handle it stays grabbed.

Spending time in Montana, North Dakota, and now New Mexico, I've also developed that door awareness. I have seen many doors with that little peeled from edge that says "Oops". The Elio is so small that it probably doesn't matter which side you are fueling on. Most could probably get the couple extra steps before even getting their wallet out. I can usually get over to the passenger's side, credit card done, pump started before the girls have even made it out of the Explorer... I have 3 girls still living with us so rest stops are an exercise in patience for me.

It provides a lot of jobs and frankly I love the fact I don't have to pump my own gas. :) Z
"Provides jobs" by forcing everyone to use a service whether they want it or not, huh? Maybe they'll make it illegal to vacuum your own floor or wash your own hair... keeping around stupid jobs just to give people a source of employment does no one any good... It's forcing all of the residents to support yet another form of welfare... I'm entitled to my opinions and occasionally subject others to them... I've said it and I'm done... So, when do you get your number???

Found this on facebook

  • Nancy LinsleyIs there some reason the fuel filler door cannot be on the same side as the entry door? It would make it more convenient for filling and leave the right side more open for add ons and modifications.

You got to admire the details in Elio's cost saving strategy! $10 here $10 there all add up. $6800 not a penny more.

Well, unless EM is willing to do a special release just for me, probably in September. LOL I think I can live with that long a wait. Of course, as with everything else involving releases, it will happen when it happens and not a minute sooner. :-) Z

I think they should have put a gas door on both sides!
NOW, let's talk about your "mother-in-law" asleep in the back seat when your Elio catches fire...................now, THAT would be "mixed emotions!" :)
