It really isn't that perplexing. While Paul Elio had a great idea, perhaps a number of great ideas, the numbers don't work. Neither the financial numbers, nor the engineering numbers, nor nor the timeline numbers, nor even the sales numbers. Big money people tend to look at the numbers, and base their decisions accordingly. That is how most of them became, and remain big money people.
Add in the deceptive marketing and poor track record, and there should be little question as to why the money is not coming in.
Wow. You do have a lot of polarizing opinions and guesses there. The engine was first started in February, as you said. Remember all the hydrostatic testing they did? Yeah, that was on the dunno stating back in November. They would continuallyincrease pressure and painstakingly make lots and lots of measurements...I'll give you some examples. I don't expect you to be convinced. They seem pretty obvious to me, but others seem not to see the deception.
No Elio ever has got 84mpg highway. The best they did was 66mpg in real life, and 81.4 in computer sims. Still adertising 84mpg.
No Elio has ever had ABS or stability control. The snow video claims that Elio does well in the snow because it has them.
Production dates: Elio has repeatedly had to move the projected production dates to about 15-18 months into the future. They have continued to advertise the same dates well past the time they knew it was impossible to meet those dates.
They continued to shout "2015, the 2016 date is wrong", right up to, and including, the day Paul announced the last production delay.
They claimed financing was in place repeatedly, while knowing that financing was not in place.
They claimed the engine was on the dyno last November, and was being tested for months, but Paul later stated that the first dyno run was this March.
They lied about the reason the engine was not unveiled in February.
They do not put standard advertising disclaimers on their website.
They promised test drives would be available in 2014.
They temporarily dropped the bonus percentage to push the fence-sitters into sending in money.
They keep running "specials" on the bonus to trick the uniformed into thinking that the bonus is a unique thing, and that they need to hurry and send in money. The current one is "Spring Promotion".
They have presented the engine as being real for 2 years, but it was not. Even now, they present the engine as a done deal, when there is only one produced, and only a two-minute video as evidence of any testing.
They presented the engine mockup as being real in the roadshows. They did not present it as a plastic model.
I just saw an article that talked about forgiving mistakes, but punishing patterns. Elio's advertising is a pattern of deception, not an honest campaign with a mistake or two.
I won't go point by point. We chose to see things different. You chose to see the worst and I chose to see the best. probably somewhere in the middle is the truth. Some of this is just standard promotion that any and all companies do. No company is going to point out the bad stuff. makes for bad business. Other things I believe they were accurate at the time and that things/circumstances changed. You see them as lies where I see them as "shit happens sometimes" and not in Elio's control. Time will tell.I'll give you some examples. I don't expect you to be convinced. They seem pretty obvious to me, but others seem not to see the deception.

Any one of these folks could cut a check (http://www.forbes.com/forbes-400/list)
& Elio would be off to the races. What is perplexing is not one has expressed any
interest publicly or offered to partner with any of Elio's principals. The Elio project
is a no-brainer on a variety of levels but must present too much risk for the serious
money to jump in at this point.........Though most of these Billionaires aren't risk
averse, so what gives?
Gone I hope.Snipped............. Then where would our beloved Lord Elgin dash be?
Better to have a smaller piece of pie than no pie at all. Elio has raised $60 Million and need an additional $240 Million. Investors would want and no doubt deserve a proportional share of the pie.IIRC, EM has stated that there have been some large investors who have expressed interest. The issue has been they want too much of the pie.

Even when looking at it all from "somewhere in the middle", it's still pretty ugly.I won't go point by point. We chose to see things different.
