I happened to be visiting back home when the P4 was at the Dream Cruise.

As I was leaving, IAV guy Kody Klindt was talking details about the engine to a small group. Lots of great detailed info about the engine (oil pan, SOHC, EGR, chain drive, variable/Porsche Variocam valve timing, etc) and why they chose to go with those technologies vs others.

[Held my phone in portrait vs. landscape on purpose, to get Kody and the engine all in the frame at the same time.]

Also stuck my phone under the car for some close up video of the suspension, brakes, steering rack, and underbody.

I couldn't not get in line to try it on and see for myself.

    Great stuff. Thanks for sharing!

Listening to the IAV talk in such detail about many things is a good reminder that Elio Motors is really trying to make this thing and has put a lot of work into it.

Good video of sitting in the backseat. That gives everyone a little bit more perspective than just pictures.

    Excellent, thanks for posting these!

My notes from the long video:
    • This engine is an automotive engine. Much lower RPMS than a motorcycle engine.
    • The spray technology (for the cylinders, right?) is going to be used by the big car makers from this point forward
    • Low cost is #1 goal for the engine; simple oil change-ability was also a goal
    • Timing belt was strongly considered, but reliability/durability won out so they chose a timing chain

years ago I helped rebuild several different engine and enjoyed the video .... with my computer the sound was kind of hard to follow .... he seemed to be pretty confident in the motor's design and construction

    Tao,
Thanks for the GREAT posts! Very informative (and good camera work as well) and answered several questions I would have asked had I been there.

Yeah, just 30 feet away was the Dream Cruise, an all day parade of all kinds of cars, but especially the ones that make lots of noise and are made to go fast.

    Yes, also he mentioned:

    * a full belly pan on the underside to facilitate better aerodynamics - I know there has been some discussion on the forum regarding if EM was considering this.

    * discussion of the variable valve lift technology should put some of those questions to rest

    *EGR

    GREAT VIDEO! Thanks, good stuff.
