With all the things we work on in our lives, there is nothing that gives more satisfaction than having our kids grow into responsible and honorable people. Hard to say if it is good parenting, good teachers, good friends, luck or a combination of all. Congrats on your family. You sound pretty happy about how they are doing. My three sons have provided great satisfaction to me as we dragged their first car home when they were 16 and then got it running and ready to drive. We spent hours together swapping an engine, doing body work, replacing parts and chasing electrical gremlins. My son's know a little more about cars and we have a laugh about some of the things we did. Not fancy cars, but they got them around. Now have 3 grandkids and 3 respectable and hard working sons. Two in college now, but they are working hard to make their way. They all tease me about my Elio, but are all looking forward to borrowing it from me. My car has never seen the inside of the garage.
I am. Hey, my 23 year old was the first I had to deal with as far as cars are concerned. I had found a "fixer upper" Pontiac Grand Am that I was going to give to her and right before that came to be, I found a Dodge Avenger that needed engine work. It had shelled a piston... didn't hurt the crank but the piston and rod were toast as were the valves. I told the Daughter that if she wanted the Dodge, she'd have to help me rebuild it and I didn't mean just hand me a wrench on occasion. She liked the power windows and stereo and the car was immaculate. It had been sitting in front of a house for some time as it was pretty new when it died and was too expensive to fix. I got that car for $400. Anyway, she actually helped. I'd have her remove things like the alternator and water pump with minimal instructions so she'd have to figure it out. Anyway, that Dodge was such a heap. Those 2.7L engines were the worst. In fact, she didn't like the car because it was hard to see out of and was just bigger than she thought. So, we sold it and let her pay the difference for a used Honda CRV. She didn't want to sell the car she worked on but just couldn't stand it. She saw how some hard work turned a $400 car into a $5,000 car. She still talks about rebuilding that car with me.:D

LOL... :(

Actually, it won't be much of a problem. My 17 year old (2nd daughter) will be away to college next year so her spot will free up. My 3rd daughter is only 14 now so she'll be turning 16 next Fall (just after school starts next year).

Now, I've always gotten my kids their first starter car but it's always in the $4-$5k range (hence the 2001 Prius). My 3rd daughter likes the Elio and has already asked "If I save up my money and pay the difference, can I get an Elio?" She said she likes that it gets such good mileage and that "new" is better than "old and busted".

Daughter 1 has finished college and is married with a kid. Daughter 2 is in the top 5 of her class and is 2 points away from a full scholarship on her ACT which she is voluntarily retaking. Daughter 3 is a straight A student who is just starting High School. Daughter 4 is ... Well, she's just learning to ride a bike.

I figure as long as the kids are working hard at keeping their grades up (and they do work long hours on homework), I'll help them with their first car. Daughter 2 IS going to work this year though. I want her to learn the value of a dollar and that doing well in school by itself isn't enough to ensure success in life. Many are successful in school and horrible at life while others didn't do well in school but excel at life. I want them to see and learn that balance.
You got my vote for Father of The Year.

The more I read, the more I believe that Elio people are good folk with traditional American values. .
It may sound corny but I'm really glad I saw that Elio ad on TV about a month ago, checked it out on line then went "All In" and met you people on this forum. Life is good and it will get even better when production starts. SIL 19784 Looking forward to Elio Rallies.

Denver; nice central location, decent weather, do it a little north in Golden and have it near the Coors factory (ask them if they could run a few taps to the outside) and you can call it the "Annual Elio on the Mountain Golden Event"

Elio Rally. I am in. You just set the place and give me a few months to plan my vacation. We can have one in every state and see how many we can get to. It is going to be fun to meet all the people on the forum. Some of you have been talking for two years. I am new, but still feel like I am part of a great group of people.
