Following this thread I have to wonder how many of the people on here have ever really "ordered" a new car.
By that I mean, gone on line and looked up all of the options and then gone in and told the salesman .... This is what I want, and these are all of the options I want, and these are a list of the dealer installed options I want. Oh, and I don't want the standard tires, I want these instead. Then waited the six to eight weeks for the vehicle to arrive at the dealer.
Sounds like a lot of people want to go to a dealer and pick one off the lot.

It took Nissan 141 days to come up with a 2000 Xterra with the option combination I wanted.

I ordered my smart back in 2007 and waited a full year for it to arrive from France. There were no smart dealers at the time I ordered my car. My experience in buying the smart sight unseen and ordering options -- based solely on my faith in the vehicle and having seen the previous generation in Europe and the new generation online -- is directly relevant to the Elio. I'm hoping it will be as positive an experience as with the smart.

A YEAR?!?!

Ditto !!!!
"Put my $$$ down and had to wait almost a year just to place the order, then waited another year to take delivery !!)

2 YEARS?!?!?!?

I can't imagine waiting 2 years for a.....

oh right....

Back on subject, I like my cars like I like my women....

For all those in doubt about carpet, paint colors, and lack of retail centers perhaps Pep Boys can have a sample board in their stores.

Every new car I have bought, with one exception, was ordered like I wanted it, beginning with a 1966 El Camino.
This also includes a 2014 Mercedes ordered from Germany. I kept it for 1 month. Biggest mistake I EVER made in car buying.

Good idea, but it needs to be large squares or else I will have the same trouble

Geez Marshall, lighten up. We're all supporters of Elio. I know we're not placing orders right now and that we're playing with the idea of eventually placing orders. That's pretty obvious. I was responding to the notion that the configurator makes it difficult to color match body paints/wraps with interior panels and carpeting. I'm not sure why you seem to be taking this thread so personally.
I'll lighten up. I'm fighting congestion and it gets me in a fighting mood, Sorry it spilled over.

I will take my chances befor driving 150 miles to the closest PEP Boys to look a swatches.

I can't tell many of the colors apart, I am color blind and need to see it in the sun and in real life to get the true picture. It sucks having to pick from a 1/4" sq. With no name. If this is their plan I am doomed.

As I suggested before, EM should post the color codes for the OEM paints and the wraps so we can look them up using a more accurate source than their online thumbnails.

I think this is a good idea ... with the understanding that it's buyer beware if you don't like the real-world results, because very, very few of us have truly professionally calibrated monitors in luminance and color stable environments!

If they did this with the advice, "most accurate when viewed at a monitor set to 2.2 gamma and 5,000 K, luminance 90/cd2" they would feel better... and so would we.

While I do agree that giving us the electronic values for the Elio colors would help, I still think physical paint chips would be the way to go. Print all 7 of them on a single 8x10 enamel card stock sheet with a gloss spot varnish, and send 'em to us for $2.00. I'd pay up in a shot.

The reason paint coupons or chips are better than online values is that the chips and our cars are both reflective surfaces. Transmissive light sources like our monitors are very, very different animals, no matter how they are calibrated. (this is the subject of a scholarly article I'm publishing this fall, and is not BS).
