Because of the comment about having to wear a helmet in the autocycle, which we know is wrong, I find Jessie Seagroves not to be a creditable source of information.

I also just asked this.
If a person from another state drives through Tennessee, and their state does not require the endorsement for a motorcycle. How does Tennessee Law deal with those rules ? are they exempt ?
their reply;
No, when u r in that state no matter what your state laws are, you must adhere to the laws of the state you are in.

First Critter, good job on asking and seeing what they will tell you.

From my research with my state's DMV contact, the person that responded to my questions roughly 16 months ago, gave responses in a similar way. It's almost like "here's an answer to your question, even though I don't understand everything about your question and I'm sure not going to ask about what I don't understand".

That's why I ended up working with my state rep and getting a bill passed that defined an autocycle. I couldn't get a straight answer based on existing laws.

Frustating! :flame:

But I get that it looks like TN has a definition of an autocycle. Here's my interpretation of Jessie's answers and other information: autocycle is defined, and Jessie isn't doing a good job of putting two and two together. We know the Elio is an autocycle in TN, and if there's an exception to the helmet for an autocycle in TN law, then Elio's map is correct, no need for a helmet in TN.

There hopefully is a TN law somewhere that says whether an autocycle driver needs a normal car license or a motorcycle license.

I had a cop in Michigan try to pull this one on me; he pulled me over and said "even if you're just visiting you have to have a Michigan Driver License; but I'll let it go this time". Yeah, BS, you only need to get that states DL if you live there over 30 days.
As for helmet laws on bikes, yes, you have to abide by that states laws; but as for the endorsement, no you don't; again, it's only if you live there.

Visiting a state over 30 days??
Folks with two homes (in florida they're called snowbirds)
renew tags on- line and mailed to "temporary" address
how can they tell? I do have good odds with off-street parking. (Extra on the rent here) usually $100- 200), and did I mention "pet rental" usually from $25-40/ month EACH + WS%G + cable, plus electric (cheapest item)- they get those rents here- not enough housing and the millennials got the cash (Think Amazon)- and when they post a good place to live, bring you're checkbook, and hope you're early (apts go overnight in some areas)
I'm in Seattle, (from FLA) over 90 days and don't intend to change for at least a year -told Geico gave me a new I D card (which I asked for just to cover my ass ( so if I need ins they know I'm here) - an aside- saved $200 moving from Fla to the City of Seattle- -go figure.
AND lets not forget the legal pot (Oct 1st Oregon went legal) prices starting to fall with competition- as soon as federal law changes, watch the BIG ag companies jump in- it'll be, as is most places the largest cash crop
but I ramble, and it's time for my meds.

The license thing in Seattle depends on the cop; people will watch your car (plates) and if they see that you have out of state plates, and you've been here for a couple of months, they will report you; the only out is if you're active military. Cops have set up stings on the ferry filming plates, if they saw it come and go for too long, they would pull you over next time you drive off the ferry; the ticket is expensive.
Lower insurance than Fla., yes, smaller town, and they take crime stats into account. Moving from Federal Way down to Battle Ground, my insurance went down $160 a year; another case of small town (BG is only 17,000).
OR / WA pot prices, I doubt it, what is it, 75% of the price is taxes; plus the vendor has a bunch of overhead the city sticks them with, mostly the King County B&O tax; so the pot vendors really don't have a lot of profit space to play with. OR is putting a new tax in just for it.
