Took the MonkeySurvey. Thanks. Always fun to interact with you. I'm thinking a tow package might be better than a roof rack for me. Looking at the frame, it may be doable. The roof line is beautiful, a shame to mar it up. There are many neat motorcycle trailers for camping, hauling, etc.

Thank you for reaching out to us!
We appreciate you taking the survey and providing us with great feedback! Our plan is to have an extensive “after-sale” options program that will include roof racks, cruise control, back up camera, body modifications, tons of interior comforts etc. The trailer hitch and trailer will have to come from the aftermarket if there is enough demand (which there seems to be) but will not be an Elio after sale part. We have not finalized the towing capacity of the vehicle. While these details including cost are currently being finalized on our end, we will provide more of these details when we get closer to the start of production.

Great to hear from you,
The Elio Team

Pretty sure that's the same exact response I got a few months ago when I asked about a luggage trailer. I"d bet it's a canned response they keep handy for trailer inquiries.

I have what is probably a crazy idea. What about tossing the traditional single-point hitch notion for a trailer in favor of a two-point hitch (either side of the rear wheel on the Elio) system? You would probably have to do some sort of dolly single wheel so that it would work on the turns and reversing. Doing that would either shift the wheel even further back (and thus put too much of the trailer weight on the toungue) or raise the center of gravity too much.... Unless you can make the "ball wheel" work.... hummmm

I second that notion. Notice that it says "cruise control" under options they are considering. Since that is standard now, I assume this is a canned response.

First, I can't wait to see your drawing. Thank you. You are correct about the insect analogy. Kind of having fun thinking about it. I am tempted to use the terms "thorax and abdomen" in place of "Elio and trailer".

Would it help to lower the trailer to the same clearance as the vehicle, then raise it with an airbag suspension when in use? That would help aerodynamically and getting a lower centre of gravity. They could also be deployed as a self levelling system.

The pill bug or rolly polly is a good model for both trailers and fenders.

Hey XanWolf,
That type of trailer is not a new idea. It was done in the late '40's (if not earlier). There are good reasons it is not popular today. That layout will cause serious over-steer. But, Please keep the ideas flowing :thumb:
