Coss, just came across this, very sorry to hear about your loss. They take a huge chunk of our hearts with them when they leave, don't they? :(
She did and it hurt more than expected. I've lost a "Furry Kids" in the past, but a couple just leave bigger wounds than others, this was big.

But enough time has passed and I will post up the new little girl <She hasn't told us her name yet> but was just released 3 hours ago from the loud noisy place where everyone pokes fingers through the cage bars; they have cheap food, and no toys. And she's just a baby @ 3 months old

Also an animal lover here. Like BilgeRat said, the saying is referring to dogs, but goes for pets of any species [IMHO].

Very sorry for your loss, Coss. Anyone that's loved a pet feels your pain.

I hit Like on this post, not because I liked it, but to let you know I'm sorry for your loss.:( Been a pet owner all my life, and understand losing one is like losing a family member. We know when we bring them home as a kitten/puppy that we will most likely out live them, but it still doesn't make it easy when that day comes. Squeak, and you will be in my prayers.

One of our barn cats passed away Sunday at the age of about 2 years. Always an aggressive hunter, we suspect he took on a snake and died of a neurotoxin poison within about 24 hours. The vet and the animal ER were deeply concerned, but there wasn't much they could do. So Black Label is gone, having lost the few remaining lives his adventuresome soul possessed. You never "own" a feral cat, you just rent them for a time, exchanging their pest control talents for treats and an occasional rub.

Farewell Blackie, we and your "little sister" will miss you.
Your evil look hid a mellow personality.

Sorry for your loss too, Lil4X. There is nothing better than a hunting cat to keep pests down on a farm. I am concerned for you and your family though. If venomous snakes are on your property, well that's not a good thing. I've always heard non-venomous snakes keep the venomous types away. Ever think about introducing harmless varieties like black, or garter snakes on to your farm? It scares me to think that one of your family members could be bitten by simply walking around the property.

The new baby is a ball of energy; she's now 16 weeks old.
And I was just out playing kitten rescuer.

Our new kitten has never climbed a tree; that was until today. She's only 16 weeks old and tiny, and she picked the biggest tree in the backyard; a 40' Corkscrew Willow.

She got up about 30 feet before she ever stopped and tried going the other way - down

She discovered her claws go the wrong direction for going down, and she started looking around, and discovered how high she was and got scared.

We coaxed her down to around 18 to 20 feet; the only ladder I could use was a 10' A frame.
I climbed to the top, including the step that says "This is not a step dummy. yes, that includes you!" (I lettered that on there about 8 years ago) and had to reach up as far as I could (and I'm 6', full reach is at almost 9')

It took a little more coaxing where I could reach around the tree and grab her by the back of the neck.

I'm now her new hero.

And she will not go back outside unless one of us is out there.

What a day....

I love both cats and dogs, though more on an individual basis than generically. But to reassure you about your tree climbing kitty -- as a tough minded friend once told me, "Look around... you don't see small piles of cat skeletons under every tree do you?"

We did once call out the fire dept when one of our cats climbed to the top of an elm, a good 40 feet up. As they extended their ladder the cat said "screw this" and took the plunge, did a kind of flip-and-roll on landing, and strolled back to the house swishing its tail.

The firemen talked about this event for some time, as I recall, and the tree never got any shorter as time went by...

My tree climber is only 14 weeks old so she's a little umm dumb; all the other cats I've had always checked the down part before going any higher; not this one; she just kept going up, and then realized you can only go up so far.
And I really didn't feel like finding out how well she bounced from that far up.
