Wanted to get some opinions on recoil pads. I'm shooting a Remmington 870 Express 12ga. Might do some dove hunting, but mainly used for trap [with JEBar and friends]. After the third round my shoulder is getting pretty raw from the stock recoil pad, so the last round is definitely less fun than the first three. Jim had some extensive work done to his barrel and stock and is working great on his 1187, but I'm pretty sure the Magna-porting would destroy the camo coating on my barrel. I've read some reviews on Limbsaver and Supercell, but the reviews are all over the place...thought I'd get some input from you guys.

If you are shooting the 3 inch shells it gets a little much, but I have enjoyed putting up to 100 of the 2 3/4 shooting clays with him and felt pretty good. We just changed out the factory wood stock to the camo composite stock which is a little lighter and has a thicker pad, but still good. Have fun. It does wear you out a little no matter what you do I think though.

Now looking at a Ruger LCR 357.

I've lost faith on compact concealed autos. Too many problems and variables to consider.

Yep, I also have the composite/camo 870 express and shoot the 2 3/4 trap/skeet shells. It's not so much the force of the recoil, but more like the repetition of the rubbing of the stock recoil pad on the front of my shoulder. Could be more the texture of the stock pad itself than the actual recoil. I'm just thinking one of the aftermarket recoil pads might be less "abrasive" by the time we get to the fourth round. And, oh yeah, it's a great way to spend an afternoon!

I hated shooting that revolver in 38, I couldn't imagine shooting 357 Magnum in it.

It's for a close range 'oh crap' moment. It's supposed to hurt.

Couldn't imagine putting 100 round through it at the range though.

Shoot 5 rounds and tell me how much you'll continue shooting it. If you aren't going to shoot it, it is highly unlikely you'll even carry it.

Well, in the four years I've regularly carried a concealed handgun, I've never had to shoot it. Or even draw it. So a few minutes of sore hands seems like a small risk for having access to a compact and reliable handgun.

Personally, I'm more concerned about the damage to my hearing, having to fire at a moment's notice without hearing protection, but that's just another one of those "is it worth it" risks that one needs to calculate for themselves. (I already have partial hearing loss in one ear from being too close to a gunshot without earplugs)

Have you ever shot it? I'll shoot my Raging Bull every once in a while, but I can't go through an entire cylinder (can only shoot 2-3) before I want to put the thing down.

I've never had the opportunity to fire an LCR, or any other compact carry revolver for that matter. I'm so used to my Torakev that I don't feel any need to change.
