Honestly, even though I put $1,000 down on an Elio I have always wondered how the heck they would pull this off. I am hoping for a funding surprise and a huge demand to help the company get through the initial startup pains (which will be huge) and make a go of it. So many folks I work with say they would buy one but “say” and actually purchase are two different things. If it’s so obvious the Elio will fail why would intelligent and honest folks (Elio’s management) even try in the first place? They have been around the block and must know the pitfalls and demands of this type of startup. I’m still hopping to be driving one in 2015/16. Not sure where the 200,000+ sales figure the first year came from. That number seems too ambitious.

A lot of interesting comments. To a few of you jetpack54 and da cheesehead , those quotes are from paul the piper himself..He spoke to the Pontiac Michigan city folks and gave a great presentation of how his trikke would change the world as we know it. yes newbies, it was called a trike at the beginning. the Pontiac folks listened to the presentation of paul the piper and a few of his followers. he promised the city 2600 jobs if they gave him money. Paul the piper also said he applied for those government grants for vehicles that exceeded the then set standard of mpg., and he was sure they would get the funding. This was in 2010.
The officials took about an hour, said no and good-bye.
it looks like paul put away his flute for a year or two and then discovered a guy named litcher?? who was so confident this vehicle, the p2 (I call it the green flying brick) could revolutionize the industry. He, actually negotiated the plant in Shreveport and leased it to Elio Motors. Paul the piper then hired a bunch of people who made up his board of ???? and they got a lot of suppliers involved. The the P3 showed up, and it was sent on tour. People were asked to donate for the cause after hearing the flute again. It was brilliant, people said, I want one, and sent in their money.. now, some sent in the money in what was called a refundable amount. To this day, no one knows who has the money. The ones who sent in their money non-refundable..meant the company could spend it on what ever they needed, the tours, payroll, paying the board of directors..wonder what they make?/
today we have the p4, took six months to build it..some people like the pontoons in the front, some don't. They had to put them there because they knew the original design would not get close to 84 mpg. Oh, I forgot, the original was a coupe with 30 pack of bud light tiny trunk space. A lot of people complained and they made it a hatchback. The engine is designed in Germany, they took a Japanese motor and re-worked it and pow, like magic, (8 months later) we have block. Just a block. Soon we will have a piston I hope. Maybe 3 of them..???? The transmissions, yup, Japanese all the way.
Well, paul the piper is at it again, due to all those un-for seen delays, problems, design changes we all have to wait another 14 months. It is amazing that some of you still hear that flute music..my key board doesn't have notes..now I wish it did.
If paul the piper was a football coach he would have been fired two years ago. But I will wait until I see the REAL ELIO...maybe a P6 or a P7, might have 3 seats, might have a bigger trunk, and with luck a real automatic transmission not a AMT..you know, the hurky, jerky kind in the smart cars. A vehicle that everybody would buy like the beetle. Hey, there are dozens of better designs out there.
Paul the piper says he has 55 million, probably had to pay racers trust the 7.5 million so where is the rest and the 18 protoypes..?
Well, That's the end my "as the world turns in the elio motors fiasco" today, It has been 6 years, and most tv shows only last about 4-5 years..yes, they get cancelled..or go to (fill in the blank)!
Paul the piper said he has 55 million dollars, kinda wonder who really has our money. But I am afraid to ask!
Good nite!*

One day I am going to have to turn that screed into a timeline.

If your temper is aroused and you tell 'em a thing or two, you will have a fine time unloading your feelings. But what about the other fellow? Will he share your pleasure? Will your belligerent tones, your hostile attitude, make it easy for him to agree with you? "If you come at me with your fists doubled," said Wood row Wilson, "I think I can promise you that mine will double as fast as yours; but if you come to me and say, 'Let us sit down and take counsel together, and, if we differ from one another, understand why it is that we differ from one another, just what the points at issue are,' we will presently find that we are not so far apart after all, that the points on which we differ are few and the points on which we agree are many, and that if we only have the patience and the candor and the desire to get together, we will get together.

Well, at least it sounds like pj hit the bottle hard enough to tell us what he really thinks tonight.

It was tiring reading that small car dealer print between the lines of his standard 3 wheel, price, etc. post that he'd repeat 20 times a day for us.

sorry, I missed that. ignore is a many splendored thing.
