I agree. Now that the $13 Million in investor money is in the bank provides more money to spend on marketing and advertising and not even a completed and tested P5. Also puzzling to me, there is no engineering and design freeze on what is a very simple vehicle design. I don't get it. I'm confused and disappointed.
I don't know if Id say I'm disappointed, confused maybe (normal state anyway). Perhaps they are trying to look more serious and viable for the loan, or they need that push of 50K reserves, I'm on board for advertising but it just seems a bit early, and using the old clip with an earlier prototype just seems cheesy. Not that the general public would know..

But the general public that considers a reservation because of this form of "first contact" will know before they decide.
If you got that impression, then what's to keep potentials from getting the same impression after a slight bit of research?

The DOE is not going to be impressed by anyone "trying to look more serious and viable".
In all likelyhood, they have enough experience at this to be able to see right through such "attempts".
They may even view it negatively at this point in time as a bad business decision and a waste of money.

In my humble view, in three days all attention and available resources should be directed toward...
The goal of at least one completely finalized and production-ready prototype. That's serious and viable.
I thnk that would bring more reservations than nationwide TV exposure using last year's prototype.

That cracked crystal ball has been used several times in the past. Has it escaped it's mothballs again?

I've always known that spending money to boost reservations indefinitely is not a sustainable system.

At this hour, I don't think EM can afford to spend a cent or a second on 'poke and hope'.
I'm really afraid that there's not enough money, time or manpower to do both goals well.
EM's been given another of what seems to be 9 lives. Another chance.
You don't get many of those.

It's time to focus, reel in a lot of loose ends, and bring the project home.

I don't mean to come across as one of those online journal-hackjobs.
If EM had a perfect record of zero errors, I'd probably not be concerned.
But even with experts advising them, they've pulled some whoppers.

They got this far by dreaming big, inspiring belief, and working like demons.
Continue by all means, but know when to impress by being conservative and BE CAREFUL.

I will now go back to eating my popcorn and leave you to your regularly scheduled programming. :pop2:

My theory is the TV spots being aired nationally are aimed at Congress, perhaps a cheaper form of lobbying than direct lobbying. This way, when the federal autocycle bill comes out of committee and starts circulating around the floor for a potential vote, a lot more Congressmen and women will be able to associate an actual vehicle to the intent of the bill (made in America with American parts, energy independence, bring manufacturing back to the US, helping folks other than the 1%, etc.).

Congress would be more likely to act if they saw an actual autocycle on the road or better yet 50,000 Elio autocycles on their daily commutes. Congress is far to busy to be watching TV and if they are, no doubt fast forwarding through commercial advertising........I know I do.

Get the engineering and design specs finalized, the P5 prototype finished. price, mpg, safety requirements locked in (why is that so difficult), and take Elio on tour to D.C. and let Congressmen take it for an actual test drive. Save the TV spots for advertising actual price point, mpg, and tested safety claims of the production Elio when folks can actually buy and drive it home.

My logic and common sense says to spend 'wisely' the recently found hard earned investor $13 Million on the P & E's and production milestones which may actually help with the ATVM Loan approval process............not millions on advertising when there is nothing to sell but the dream.

Maybe EM will drop the entire $13 Million on Super Bowl Advertising: A Team of Budweiser Clydesdales pulling the P5 out onto the field and around the stadium (sarcasm).............or better yet the Elio tearing up the field doing donuts under it's own power.

Upon seeing the commercial for the first time, I was moved to the point of not being able to breathe. I hung onto every word, clinging like these words were the essence of a new beginning. The haunting black and white image, of the old crumbling automobile factory, spoke volumes. A metaphor of a dying US auto industry, lost in time and space. Unveiling the Elio was like the opening of a new dawn. It made a profound statement. We can alter the future, and we can start now. My hope is that it touches at least a million others in the same way. Money well spent!

The shares may be trade-able, but who will be selling? If the price stays decent, I suppose some of the early investors who got preferential prices could bail. Buy the stock early for $1.50 a share, then sell as soon as possible for $6? (Or whatever it will go for. OTC stock purchases and prices aren't reported.)
I don't think they sold all of the shares they had and so those unsold shares could be available on the OTC.

Rickb,

You bring up some good points. However, there's a Catch-22 there: Congress may not see 50k Elios prowling the streets without an effective autocycle law in place, and according to your premise, Congress won't enact an autocycle law without seeing tens of thousands of Elios on the street.

I'd also point out a more subtle nuance to my theory - much of the actual bill writing and analysis is done by congressional aides, who are much more likely to see these ads even if their bosses don't. Those aides are in a good position to let their bosses know if they've seen the autocycle on TV, and more importantly, give them any positive impressions (hopefully not negative ones).
