I don't think it's a law. It's just like changing the valve steams, the tire stores will try to sell you new ones, but you don't have to do it, but then you don't get a warranty for your tires. and they sell sensor refresh kits but they won't tell you that either.
No, I don't think it's a law, but some of the bigger tire places, it's their policy, and they wont install the tires without changing them.

The biggest crux of the tire pressure mgnt system, is this, when you get new tires they have to replace the sensors, they can run $100 ea. so just go ahead and add $400! to your next tire change..
They don't all use in-tire sensors. Some use the ABS system to just detect angular velocity differences... all that is required by law... 25% difference is what it takes to set off the system. Some are more fancy and can tell you which wheel but even that's not required.

I am not saying they all do, my wife's VW uses the ABS, and my FIat 500 uses the in-tire sensor..

I don't think it will fly, since it has awakened the States Rights lobby, as crazy as that sounds. Smells like industry underhandedness to me!
Anyway, that actually works to Elio's advantage IMO. Competition from major makers would benefit from those laws more than Elio will. And the states seem inclined to accommodate the Elio as it stands now. Even if it will be touch and go for a few. This law-fail may even help to stave off foreign competition too. The patchwork of state's laws would befuddle them at least a bit.
Hey, Ari, where did you find out about the proposed bill being in trouble?

unnecessary? Unnecessary? You can't expect a person to actually look behind their car before backing up, do you? Holy crap! That's like extra hard driving thingy stuff there.
My depth perception is far from perfect, and I don't have a rear-view camera in my Subaru -- really want one, can't justify the expense for what is near the end of its life -- I NEED MY ELIO NOW!

It appeared to be was some official web-site where the politician's post their positions about the bills. On that about 75% had these very charged statements to make about the anti-constitutional basis of the bill. I did post the link. I want to say more than a week ago at this point.

Using the known bill numbers, (you'll have to look that up on the forum) the one's for the senate and house, I then googled for the related pages.

Depends on WHO does it for you, some of the big chain stores (i.e. NTB) it's their policy to replace them every time, if it's just Joe the local gas station guy then he wont replace them.

understood .... with that being the case, NTB won't be getting our business ....
