Certainly we as consumers benefit from each of these. Looking globally, however, it is a different story. I remember seeing pictures of 1000's of Chinese commuters on bicycles when I was in elementary school. At the time I recall wondering, "What will happen when they all start driving cars?" That reality is upon us, both in China, India and elsewhere. It's been said by better minds than mine that future generations, recycling used oil routinely as lubricants, asphalt, yard furniture and decking, etc. will look at our one use burning of oil as incredibly wasteful and short-sighted.

As a former participant in the oil and gas services sector, I appreciated your providing the overview of the extraction process for our readers.

I must be real slow. Still don't see a correlation here. My reason for being so excited about this is an American manufacturer building a reasonably priced transport. Insurance still costs me more than gas every year. I love the fact that so many people out there are willing to explore new technology and spend the money to drive hybrids and electrics with no payback.

Gas prices at 84 mpg is the least of my worries. This car will do well if it was $2.00 a gal or $7.00.
I am buying it because 1: it is cool looking. 2: It doesn't cost an arm and a leg. 3: I don't need a car that seats more than one person. 4: It has good tank range. 5: it is American made. This is my CanAm Spyder without all the draw backs / an inclosed trike!

that's about what the rest of the world pays, our current artificial price, without going into politics, will continue to rise faster than the CPI. and BINGO Paul is positioned for great success. Remember, it wasn't too long ago when you couldn't give away an explorer and there were premiums on hybreds??
Sure glad that I am waiting on the production of an Elio, and NOT a Hummer. Don'tca just know all those folks out there with those things are rethinking their purchases right about now??? o_O

In fact, if Elio becomes super popular, for a while it will control gas prices downward. That's where each time the gas price goes up, more driving miles get replaced with Elio miles. For a time (just for a time) that will hold prices more level. And too, an Elio is cheaper to go driving to find lower prices locally. That actually could help.

In two or three years if gas prices spike.........because of the Elio lowering demand..............battery technology will have been implemented to increase range 4X, eliminating range anxiety, at a significantly lower cost............BOOM! ............a feasible electric Elio option.

When battery costs drop Elio Motors will definitely be right at the forefront as they will already have a well developed, safe, economical, and lightweight chassis just waiting for the ICE drivetrain to be swapped with an electric drivetrain and battery back.

I can remember my father having gas delivered to the farm underground fuel tank by the local co-op for 19 cents a gallon. One of my best friends father owned the local Chevron station and I remember in the early 70's when the price of gas hit 65 cents a gallon and was predicted to go to a dollar a gallon. He said 'nobody will pay a dollar a gallon for gas' My comment at that time was 'what is your alternative are you going to buy a horse?
I saw and heard on the news that the price of gas is going to dip under $3.00 a gallon and I must confess, my first thought was 'Dammit I would save more money if the price of gas was higher
