it will be visible i wonder just how visible at first? it may be to visible! i;m talking about the rubberneckers if they stare to much they may find themselves in another lane of off the road. i see that quite often when i'm in my corvair, i have it customised and people are trying to figure out if it is a camaro, i have seen a few get out of their lanes. actually i have to brake sometimes just to give them some room nd to get them ahead of me to avoid a problem.

Upon looking at pictures of the Elio, I am concerned about one thing in particular: How TALL is the car overall? Low cars are not easily seen in front of taller/higher vehicles. I'd be afraid for instance, of someone trying to pass on a two lane highway only to find an Elio in front of the car/truck/trailer they are trying to pass. Might make for some white knuckled terror. Does anyone know the actual height of the Elio?

I feel this is one case where the outrigger wheels are going to be an advantage. I have the same problem in my Camry so if some idiot is trying to pass a truck on a two lane road I will be invisible until they reach a point where they can see my entire car. With the Elio the outrigger wheels will be a warning that there is more ahead than they thought. Of course that is, as always, my very biased and totally not the least bit humble opinion. I will be able to tell you more next year when I am actually driivng my Elio. :-) Z

.1) "shifter on the dash". Tho it is possible to mount an "auto shifter on the dash, I don't believe it it economically practical to put a 5-speed "manual shifter" on the dash. just as easy as it will be cable driven you can put them anywhere

I have driven manual transmissions for 50 years, on the floor and on the steering column. Please, tell me the name of a car that has had a manual shifter on the dash?

i disagree somewhat here, if drivers are passing and don't see you until they are just about ready to occupy your space in this car you have no place to go. i have been in that situation a lot of times while riding my scooter. and i have to drive to the shoulder to avoid a crash. (a scooter and car can occupy the same area but not the elio) and you should see the look on the other drivers face when they get into your space. like o shit what you doing here? the tires are so small they may just be invisible to the other driver trying to get out of the way of that truck coming at him. just like turning left after a car goes by you to discover they have a trailer on the back some are so small you don't see them fast enough.

1970's honda civic had the manual shifter on the dash. citrogen had the manual shifter on the dash. and now days they are all cable driven. so it does not matter. the geo metro cable driven manual yes on the floor but just as easy to put in the dash. not the best looking having that lever hanging out the dash but it has been done. my brother in law has a van from japan only a few years old with a manual on the dash i don't know the make.

I had a Honda AN600 that had the manual shifter on the dash.
You need to own stock in a "U-joint company.

There is a big difference between a scooter and the Elio. Remember the Elio wheel distance is the same or a little wider than most standard cars including a Ford Taurus. :-) Z
