If I ride solo, I'll ride left lane through town; right lane country / away from city.
Left lane so I have room to escape driveways and idiots, right lane out of city to give space to lane drifters from the other direction.
It actually depends on traffic more than anything; I want to most room to avoid bad situations.

Riding since 1948... I ride in the left wheel-track except if I see an eighteen wheeler overtaking me, then switch to the right to avoid the wind buffeting.

A semi passing you? There's your problem, go faster and pass them :becky: <just kidding>

But to a degree it is true; I normally ride 5 to 7mph over the speed limit whether it's on a bike or a car/truck.
I'll pick a track to ride in depending on road conditions and traffic.
