That wasn't the QB as much as the offensive line. Osweiler never had more than a couple seconds to get rid of the ball. He'd take a three step drop and have to dodge a pass rusher after the second step.

I also noticed a ton of 'catchable' balls that weren't. The receivers were definitely having an off night.

Sunday's games (I took a couple of weeks off, good to be back):

Pitt 33, Cin 20 - Andy Dalton is never-so-appreciated as he is now. Diagnosis is a broken thumb, might be back for playoffs at best, might be done for season at worst. Mike and Mike this morning on ESPN2: "The last time an Alabama Univ. QB started and won a game in the NFL: 1987". I think it was Jeff Rutlege? AJ McCarron is now the starter for Cin, and he is from Alabama. Anyway, the Steelers go into Cincy and pull the upset. Roehlisberger completed a ton of passes, 30 for 39, but only 282 yds / 0 TD / 1 INT / 2 Sacks. McCarron's numbers were decent for a backup, 280 yds / 2 TD / 2 INT / 3 sacks, but he threw a pick-six and the Bengals couldn't recover. Cin lost in turnovers 3-1. Cincy's defense is supposed to be pretty good, and Pitt was 8-14 on 3rd down. Cincy is now the #2 seed in the AFC, and looks like they will have to completely melt down to lose it to Denver, but we shall SEE. Pitt is still on the outside looking in, losing the tiebreaker to KC and NYJ. Big win for Pitt though, they are 8-5, Cin is 10-3.

Dal 7, GB 28 - Not much to see here. It rained the entire game. Yes, it was 14-7 late in the 4th qtr, but no one thought Matt Cassel would lead the Cowboys to more than 10 pts. GB ran the ball all day long, ended with 230 yds rushing. Now Dallas did have 171 rushing too, but passing offense was 13-29 for 114 yds / 0 TD / 1 INT / 2 sacks. On 3rd down, Dal was 1-11, GB was 7-14. GB takes over first place in NFC North at 9-4.

SD 3, KC 10 - In the 2nd all-day-rain game of the day, the Chiefs won their 7th in a row. SD converted three 4-downs in their final drive that started from their own 11 yd line, and found themselves 1st and goal on the 1 yd-line with 5 seconds left. False start, offense. 1st and goal at the 6. Quick slant pass, just out of reach and incomplete, only 3 secs run off clock. 2nd and goal at the 6 with 2 seconds left. False start, offense. 2nd and goal at the 11 with 2 seconds left. Pass from Rivers to Woodhead... JUST barely broken up by LB Dee Ford, pass is incomplete, game over. The media pretty much ignored this game, but it had an amazing finish. Alex Smith's no-INT streak ended at 312 pass completions, I believe that puts him 2nd all-time behind Brady. Anyway, SD couldn't run the ball, but they don't usually try. KC did try and did well, 150 yds. 40 of it by Smith. Rivers was sacked 5 times. KC lost in turnovers 2-1, but were better on 3rd down. Teams combined for 15 penalties, and several others that were declined. KC goes to 8-5 and is in the #1 wildcard slot, 2 games behind Denver with 3 to go.

Buf 20, Phi 23 - Eagles get a win over the Bills. Rex Ryan whined after the game about all the penalties called on his team, and while I didn't see any highlights, it's possible that some of the penalties were iffy. That said, Rex's teams get a lot of penalties, so the reputation may have aided his team getting FIFTEEN penalties, lol. Buf lost in turnovers 2-1. Phi got their winning FG with 3:26 left. Buf had a ton of rushing yds, 152, and Phi had 116. Buf is realistically out of the playoff picture at 6-7. Phi is tied with Redskins for NFC East lead at 6-7.

SF 10, Cle 24 - The Browns sacked Gabbert NINE times as the Browns go to 3-10. It was 24-3 halfway thru the 4th qtr. Isaiah Crowell ran for 145 yds and the team ran for 230! Manziel played good enough for his team to win.

Det 14, StL 21 - Matt Stafford becomes the fastest player to 25,000 passing yards, he did it in 90 games, pretty impressive. Alas, the Lions' fade continues, and the Rams are a bit better but continue to be below avg. Rams ran for 203 yds. Calvin Johnson, 1 catch for 16 yds. Case Keenum did just enough to help StL win. They are 5-8.

NO 24, TB 17 - The Saints pretty much end the playoff hopes of the Bucs. Brees threw for 312 / 2 TD / 0 INT / 2 sacks. The Saints defense played one of their better games. Offense played very well too, as they were 12-17 on 3rd down. Saints did have 12 penalties but TB had 8. Bucs ran the ball a little better than NO but couldn't manage to get the points on the board. TB falls to 6-7, Saints are 5-8.

NYJ 30, Ten 8 - Jets pummel the Titans. Fitzpatrick had a great game like Brees did: 263 / 3 / 0 / 1 sack. Jets ran the ball very well for 183 yds. Titans appear to not have an NFL RB, as they ran it for 24 yds. Jets were 7-15 on 3rd down, and won the turnovers 0-1. Jets have the #2 AFC wildcard right now and are 8-5.

Ind 16, Jax 51 - Whoa! The Jags put it on the Colts. It was 13-9 Ind at halftime. Jax scored 21 in the 3rd qtr, and 21 in the 4th! Amazing. Bortles threw for 250 / 3 / 0 / 3 sacks. Hasselbeck was ok, 252 / 0 / 0 / 3, but had at least one turnover that turned into a defensive TD. Jax ran for 154 yds. Bortles threw to 9 different receivers. Colts had 3 more penalties. Jax moves to 5-8. The AFC South is similar to the NFC East: this was a huge game that really tightens things up. Ind and Hou are tied at 6-7, and Jax is one game back. Down the stretch they... limp!

Was 24, Chi 21 - Both QBs played pretty well, Cousins was 300 / 1 / 1 / 3 sacks, and Cutler was 315 / 2 / 0 / 3 sacks. Wash ran the ball a little better, was good on 3rd down, and had 1 more penalty. Bears tied it at 21 in the 3rd, but Wash got a FG to start the 4th and that was it. Wash and Phi are 6-7 to lead the NFC Least... uh... East. Giants can join them with a win tonight.

Atl 0, Car 38 - Not much here. It was 21-0 at end of 1st qtr. Cam Newton continues to be the man: 265 / 3 / 0 / 2 sacks. Matt Ryan was below avg, 224 / 0 / 1 / 3 sacks. Rush yds: Car 142, Atl 54. Ted Ginn Jr. for Car: 2 catches, 120 yds, 2 TDs. Car is 13-0 and looking like the favorite in the NFC. Atl is pretty much out of the playoff picture at 6-7.

Sea 35, Bal 6 - Seattle throttles the Ravens in Baltimore. Wison had a huge game: 292 / 5 / 0 / 0 sacks. Seahawks ran for 123, Bal for 28. Rawls got hurt for Sea and may be gone for the season, so next man up at RB for them. Tyler Lockett for Sea: 6 catches, 104 yds, 2 TDs. Doug Baldwin for Sea: 6 catches, 82 yds, 3 TDs. Scary good. Sea is 8-5 and has the #1 wildcard in the NFC. They've won 4 in a row and 6 of 7.

Oak 15, Den 12 - Oakland goes into Denver and gets the upset. Osweiler was sacked 5 times, and most were not his fault. He did throw for 308 yds, but no TD. This was a no-rush-yds game, as Den ran for 34 and Oak for 27. Carr threw for 135 / 2 / 0 / 3 sacks, and those 2 TDs were really crucial. It was 12-0 at half, and Oak outscored Den 15-0 in the 2nd half. Den lost in turnovers 2-0, but Oak lost in penalties 10-4. Those turnovers must've resulted in Oak pts. Denver has the #3 seed in the AFC at 10-3, but they are 3-3 in last 6 games. Oak will have to win out and get some help to make the playoffs, they are 6-7.

NE 27, Hou 6 - I really thought the Texans had a chance in this game, but they did not. Brady was above avg, 226 / 2 / 0 / 3 sacks, Hoyer for Hou was not good, 155 / 0 / 0 / 5 sacks. Patriots ran the ball a bit better than the Texans. Hou only had 7 first downs. NE was 7-16 on 3rd down which is good, and had 2 more penalties. NE grabs the #1 seed in the AFC. Houston can still win the AFC South as they are tied for lead at 6-7.

So glad to have you back Jeff; I was going through withdrawals when there wasn't one of your excellent Monday morning reviews of the weekend.
It was kind of a strange weekend with some games; Oakland over Denver? What's up with that?
Seattle has pulled it together (finally) from that terrible start of the year we were going through. Rawls broke is ankle, but it must not have been too bad, he walked off the field on his own; we'll find out more today. On to RB #3 Fred Jackson

Shh... Atlanta has Carolina right where they want them... lulled into thinking the next time they meet it'll be the same type of game.

Now, having said that, I wonder if Atlanta, New Orleans, and Dallas can get together (my wife's two teams) and get group rates on Super Bowl tickets so they'll have SOMETHING to do in February.

the Panther's coaching staff really has much to consider in their coming games .... should they rest their key players so as to make sure they go into the playoffs rested and healthy .... if they back off, they can lower the team's intensity .... the players want to go undefeated so as to set a mark that they can point to for the rest of their lives .... the fans want to see a perfect season .... their remaining games will be played against teams who will pull out all stops to be the one that ends the Panther's streak .... and so on

yep, much to consider .... my bet is some intense discussions have been and continues to take place in the front office

I think they'll keep their players playing long enough to ensure wins and not a minute longer. They pulled Cam for the 4th quarter Sunday... The Falcons pulled Matt for the same (albeit the other side of the coin) reason.

I think they should leave Kam out there for the whole game with all the 3rd and 4th string players; just to give those players a chance to play with "superman". :thumb:
