Sunday's games:

KC 10, Min 16 - Vikings moved to 3-2 with a win, despite Adrian Peterson going 26 carries for 60 yds. And despite losing in turnovers 2-1. And despite being 6-17 on 3rd down. And despite having only 237 yds passing. What's that? Oh, yes, KC continues to be very, very bad. Offense, defense, special teams. Yes, Charles is hurt, but very little pressure on the QB by the defense and hey, look at that, currently positioned to get the 4th pick in the draft!

SD 20, GB 27 - Rivers threw the ball 65 times. Records were set for most completions allowed ever by a GB defense, most completions and attempts and probably pass yards for SD. Amazing performance by the Chargers and they hung in there well at Lambeau Field. For the two teams, sacks were even, SD lost in turnovers 1-0, SD was excellent on third down (9-18). SD didn't try to run the ball, and somehow ran for more attempts than GB did. Strange stat of the day: SD had 89 plays on offense, GB had 49. That means one thing: GB did a lot more scoring with their possessions than SD did. SD had 3 more penalties. Strange stat #2 of the day: of Rodgers 16 pass completions, 2 players caught one pass, and seven of them caught 2. GB is 6-0.

Was 20, NYJ 34 - Redskins had the lead at half, but that booming sound you heard was the Jets scoring in the 3rd qtr, 17-0. Fitzpatrick had his usual 2 TD and 1 INT, but was sacked zero times. Jets have a brutally punishing running game: today, 221 yds. Even Fitzpatrick ran for 31. Cousins went back to being below avg, 1 TD and 2 INT. Jets were good on 3rd down, 7-14. Jets lost in turnovers 3-2, but only had 1 penalty (Skins only had 3, the ref crew must've had a big party the night before). 34 yds rushing for Wash. Jets are 4-1.

Cin 34, Buf 21 - Again the 3rd qtr proves critical, as Cin pulled away on the road to make it 31-14 to start the 4th qtr. LeSean McCoy tested his hurt hamstring and did well, running for 90 yds. Dalton was excellent for Cincy, 3 TDs 0 Int 0 Sacks. Buf lost in turnovers 1-0, had 8 penalties (sur PRIIII ise). Buf was good on 3rd down but Cincy was better. Bengals are 6-0.

AZ 13, Pit 25 - Did I say the 3rd qtr was important on this day? AZ was up 10-3 at half, and actually Pitt was much better in the 4th qtr too, as the Steelers outscored the Cards in the 2nd half 22-3. Maybe we're seeing the better coaching staffs making some adjustments at halftime, who knows. Anyhoo, Landry Jones came off the bench at QB for Pitt and sparked the Steelers for 2 TDs and no INT. Pitt rushed for 141, Mike Vick for 47 of it. The Cards had Charger-like stats: lots of pass yds, not much running yds. Turnovers: AZ 3, Pitt 0. AZ had 3 more penalties. Both of these teams are now 4-2.

Chi 34, Det 37 - You'd think if Det scores a go-ahead TD with 21 seconds left, game over. Nope. Pass for 25, pass for 24, and pass interference for 20 yds... Chi kicks a 29 yd FG as time expires to tie it at 34. In OT, both teams got the ball twice and had to punt, but on Det's 3rd possession, drove the length of the field for a FG to win it. As the score would indicate, lots of yards gained: Det 546, Chi 444. Det lost in turnovers 3-1, penalties were about the same, but Det was better on 3rd down. Det also ran for 155 yds. Stafford was very good today, 405 yds 4 TD 1 INT. For Chi, Alshon Jeffery caught 8 for 147 yds.

Den 26, Cle 23 - Another OT game, Cle kicked a FG with 1:30 remaining to tie it at 23. Cle made a nice comeback at home to send it to OT. But, this just in, Peyton Manning plays for Denver. He did it again, does just enough to win (despite many Den fans calling for the backup QB). Speaking of fans calling for a backup QB, it was 1997, and Denver's QB John Elway was not playing well. Fans at that time were calling for backup QB Gary Kubiak to be put in (who now is head coach of the Broncos). Later in the playoffs, with Elway at the helm, Denver wins the Super Bowl. Won the next year too with Elway. Point is, fans don't always know what's best. Back to this game: Den was bad on 3rd down, 4-18, Cle was better. Turnovers were even, Den had 2 more penalties. Manning's stats were not good, 26-48 for 290 yds, 1 TD 3 INT. But no sacks, and Den sacked McCown 4 times for Cle. Both teams ran the ball well, but Den ran for 43 more yds. Denver's defense is very good, as the def/special teams has outscored the offense so far! Den is 6-0.

Hou 31, Jax 20 - Hoyer has an excellent game for Hou, first time they've had excellent QB play this year. Bortles for Jax, not so much. Hou sacked Bortles 3 times, and Hou got 3 turnovers from Jax. Lots of penalties, 10 for Hou and 7 for Jax.

Mia 38, Ten 10 - Dolphins win going away as they had 2 fewer turnovers and 2 more penalties. Mia was good on 3rd down and ran the ball well, for 180 yds. Mia got a pick-6 in the 3rd qtr to make it 24-3. I heard something about a cheap shot by Mia on Mariotta in the 1st qtr, but I haven't seen the video yet.

Car 27, Sea 23 - How about them Panthers? They go into a place that is NOT easy to get a win and they do it. Car lost in turnovers 2-0, but had 2 fewer penalties, and was better on 3rd down. Sea got 3 sacks, but Car got 4. Sea ran the ball well, but Car ran for 20 more yds. Jimmy Graham had a big day for Sea finally, 8 catches for 140 yds. Sea was up 23-20 with 2:20 to play, and Cam Newton and company drove 80 yds and scored on a 26 yd pass with 32 seconds left. Great win for the 5-0 Panthers.

Bal 20, SF 25 - Kaepernick had a big game despite being sacked 3 times: 16 of 27 for 340 yds, 2 TD 0 INT. Neither team ran the ball well, but Bal lost in turnovers 2-0. Flacco threw for 343 yds, 2 TD and 2 INT.

NE 34, Ind 27 - In a media-hyped game, it was 34-21 with 3 min to go. Before that, Indy played well, and did lead 21-20 at halftime, but NE played just a LITTLE better, outscoring them 14-6 in the 2nd half. NE lost in turnovers 1-0 but had 3 fewer penalties. Both teams were good on 3rd down, sacks were fairly even, all other stats were fairly even too. Both Luck and Brady threw for 312 yds. NE goes to 5-0.

Thanks Jeff, another outstanding report :thumb:
Being a diehard Seahawks fan I have to say, WE SUCKED!!
It also seemed that the flags didn't fly for a number of blatant fouls the Panthers committed.
But I have to admit, Panthers have built a very strong team this year; the size of some of their receivers is almost scary
Seattle did score it's first rushing TD this year with the Beast taking it in from a yard out. Something is going on with our OC; it's like he's playing games because of last year's SB flub at the end. We have blown the lead in the 4th quarter for far too many games. And the new DC is still trying to figure out how to use the tools that he has. I feel for Russell Wilson, his O-Line has given him a stat he doesn't deserve; Most sacked QB in the NFL for 2015

Thank goodness the Falcons played on Thursday so I didn't have to read about THAT fiasco! Keep up the great work. I really appreciate it. I watch several games and keep up with the stats and media hype but you bring a good perspective to it.

Ely ain't no Peyton

In general, agreed, but if you look at the Super Bowl ring count: Eli has 2, Peyton has 1. It's sort of mystifying, but there it is. Will be interesting to look at their entire careers when they've both retired, and compare all of the stats. One thing that's interesting to me right now: if/when Eli is done with the Giants, will he get picked up by another team? Timing is everything, so whoever the teams are in about 3 yrs that will need a QB, will most likely be happy to have Eli.

Eli did NOT play consistently last night. He started out like a house of fire, 10 of 10 passing. Then the rest of the game, he was in my opinion less-than-avg. An amazing interception by a Philly LB on that one pass in the first half. Both teams had a lot of turnovers, and the Eags were able to capitalize more often than the Giants were.

given on the rings .... watching Eli, he seems to me to be making way too many unforced mistakes .... possibly he tries to do too much .... possibly his ego over rules his thinking .... not to say he's not very capable, just that he hasn't reached his brother's level ... its also a given that not many others have reached that level

The Saints will probably need one by then...
