My VTX 1800 has the largest pistons made by Honda... including cars... 1800 CC IS two Elio Engines in size. And, I get 45MPG on the highway with horrible aerodynamics. The bike weighs about 800 pounds without a rider though so it beats the Elio on weight. But, it's loud... much louder than my Elio... At least, it better be!!!

"Last but not least, I'm not terribly impressed with racers that can only do something for ten seconds at a time! ;)"

I'm with you on that.
10 seconds is slow now days.
I like the 3.80 ET'S. and the 330 MPH doing something. Now that's a sound I can sleep by.
I think that's what you call impressive.

Mike, my father was born on a farm, as was his own father. My late "little" brother was a dairy farm manager. I learned to drive in 1969 on a Ferguson TE20 tractor with a petrol/TVO "dual fuel" engine. Happy days!

As I grew up riding BSA motorcycles, the Harley exhaust note, although impressive, has never been my favourite sound.
I grew up on the farm as well, and loved the sounds, from the hog feeders, the chickens, the cows, and the Oliver diesel's. But I really enjoyed the neighbor's A-John Deere. I later, drove truck over the road and found that very low, almost indiscernible whistle of the turbo to be unobjectionable, and even more enjoyable than a quiet car. You can't hear it until you settle down at cruise.

Grampi,
1. FYI, a tractor only has one pipe, so it would have to be two tractors. :D
2. I've heard a VMax, sounds more like a fart in a stove pipe, IMHO :p
3. Talk to me when Yamaha or Suzuki has been around for 112 years. :)
4. Last but not least, I'm not terribly impressed with racers that can only do something for ten seconds at a time! ;)

Boy this ought to sufficiently stir the pot on many levels. :D:D:D:D:D

What does the length of time Harley has been around have to do with sound, and who said anything about racers? I think someone is a little touchy about their beloved brand...

Well, there's the literal analogies.
Oh, and BTW, this is my first Harley, always owned Honda or Yamaha before this. ;)
My wife has a Suzuki Boulevard, so I had to apologize to her too.

Hey Earl,
Shhhh!
I was betting he'd never seen a tractor with dual exhausts.
I'd hedged my bet on the fact that not many IH 38's or JD-D's were built and any Case 930's or Oliver's he might have seen weren't stock.
Dusty
38s? The tractor I pictured is a 14or1568.

JD Ds have one exhaust, the RH pipe is the air intake. Seen a few pullers run duals on the putt putts tho.

I think there was an Oliver with factory duals, one of the Detroit Diesel powered ones, but I'd have to do some research.

Yes, Im a tractor junkie.
