I want a newer car for the reliability. I drive a 24 year old truck now and need something a lot newer. I don't want to buy another clunker. I can't be late to classes or my job because of an overheating car. Most used cars around 6800 have about 100k on them

I would much rather they get it right than rush to production and miss something that will cause problems later (A Wise Man speaks).

Having said that, I wish they would get it together and make it happen

When will we start getting facts about the road to production?
Do they have a plant?
Are there employees there?
Are they building a production line.
Hard facts, just 12 months to go.

I look forward to details, and just not more of the same.

Hi and welcome from Sutherlin, OR, gregguy.
1. Yes they have a plant
2. No, the work is currently being done in Michigan
3. I have no idea
4. Keep in touch and you will get the facts as we get them.

Since I have never seen you on here before, I have no idea what you mean by more of the same. Building a new product from the ground up is not done well by a quick trip to the store. There is a lot of information on this forum that should calm you down a bit if you are willing to spend the time looking for and reading it. We are generally a very friendly group of people who love the Elio and spend time together discussing it. We also have a lot of very knowledgeable people on here who can teach you a lot about what it takes to develop a new vehicle including plant and sales rooms, from the ground up. Delays have happened but then by your age you should know that life is what happens while you are making plans for something else. In the mean time, I hope you will explore and enjoy all that is shared here.

Do you have a reservation? If so please see our Reservation Map and Survey
Have you been in the military? If so please visit our Military forum.
Do you have a hobby? If so please share it with us on our hobby forum

This is a great site and I sincerely hope you learn to enjoy all it has to offer. See you next year when I am driving my Elio. :-) Z

Gregguy, Welcome to ElioOwners.com! :)

I believe you are getting ahead of things as Elio Motors is still in the vehicle development phase. We do know that EM's partner IRG has secured a lease on the former GM plant in Shreveport however we do not expect much production news or work on setting up the plant until about six months before production. The only news out of Shreveport we may hear before then is cleaning out some unneeded equipment for sale which may or may not also include some extra equipment being moved around in preparation for future work.

The hard facts we should hear about in the near future will be about the vehicle development program as this needs to be completed before production anyway. Over the next few months we will be hearing more about the engine being completed and tested as well as the building of the P5 then the E series preproduction run of vehicles which will be used for most of the final phase of development and testing including crash testing.

We are very glad to have you here. You have joined a very diverse group of people from all over the country who really enjoy discussing everything there is to know about this interesting vehicle. I hope you enjoy your time here reading through our many topical discussions threads and/or discussing all there is to know about Elio Motors.

As Z mentioned:

We have a survey we like reservation holders to fill out if they wish as it really helps us visualize the growing numbers and locations of future Elio Owners. For now information visit this link: http://www.elioowners.com/threads/elio-reservation-map-and-survey.1129/

We also have a thread for our many current and former service members to introduce themselves. If that applies to you visit this thread: http://www.elioowners.com/threads/military-service.1118/

If you ever happen to have any issues while on this forum please be sure to notify a staff member as we are here to help.

gregguy,
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I'm personally interested in what this group has in common,
what your thoughts are about the Elio,
what interests you the most about the car,
and in general what types of people are interested in the Elio.
However, if you don't think you would like to share this information; it's okay. :)
Thanks for joining the site.

WELCOME to the forum, gregguy.

Answer to your questions are VERY simple:

Yes, they DO have a plant; in Shreveport, Louisiana.

No. There are NO employees there, just mice & pigeons.

No. They are not yet building a production line. First, they must decide what present equipment in the plant they DON'T need, find a buyer for that equipment and get it out of there.

Hard facts? "Just 12 months to go?"

That's a "MAYBE." And I know that there are many on here that won't want to hear that, nor will they agree with that. But I am just basing those feelings on the PAST track record that Elio Motors, itself, has laid down over it's history. They have consistently bumped the production date back EACH time we approach the "new" production date.

That ALL being said. . . . . , I think Elio Motors itself is responsible for the doubt and unrest here amongst the Indians. They ARE DOING a great job designing and putting this whole package together, but I think they need too back off from dangling the carrot TOO CLOSE in front of us, AND concentrate on developing the car!

Old saying here in Louisiana: "When you are up to your A_S in alligators, it becomes very hard to remember that your primary job was to drain the swamp."

Don't lose faith, gregguy, Elio Motors is doing the best that they can right now, and they WILL bring the Elio to market, but probably not within the next 12 months.

No doubt, the EM management team has PERT/GANTT/WBS charts that breakdown the tasks and schedule at some level of detail. I'd love to see them too. But most managers aren't going to release details they don't have to, for competitive reasons or business strategy. Since EM is not publicly traded, there isn't a heck of a lot of information they have to release.
