As he is the person at Elio Motors I have had the most direct contact with I can tell you from my first hand experience that Joel Sheltrown, ElIo's VP of Government Affairs, is truly working very hard on the helmet and motorcycle endorsements issues. I know he maintains a list of exactly where things stand in each and every state and he follows up on these issues on a regular basis.

You don't know the dysfunctional nature of the NC government then.

AMEN to the dysfunctional ..:(.. it would sure simplify things if Joel Sheltrown would let folks from NC know who he recommends contacting .... or if it would be best to let him handle it behind the scenes

I am, of course, not knowledgeable about other states, but here in Missouri obtaining a motorcycle endorsement is REALLY simple. You do have to take an easy knowledge test, but the driving test is on YOUR motorcycle, in this case, your Elio. For three-wheeled and side-car rigs, they don't even take you on their regular driving skill course. Just follow you around and observe. So, I only see the helmet law as a big deal for us right now, and maybe by the day I drive my Elio home to Missouri, that will be resolved.

The next general assembly session in NC begins in January and I am sure I, or we, will be hearing from him before that time. In the past what he has done is provide us with the name of whomever is introducing the legislation and/or the bill number(s) so members can contact their legislators and get them on board and communicating with whomever Joel is working with.

This is only a non-issue for those of us that already have mc endorsements. For those who do not, or would rather not, and even Elio Motors for that matter, it is a major issue. I already have a mc endorsement, but I have to admit, it has already crossed my mind what a hassle it would be to have to buy a helmet just to drive though that little portion of the "Show Me" state just to get my Elio back home to Florida from the factory. The law should be universal so one does not have to check state law before crossing state lines. I really believe that if these issues are not addressed, there will be a lot of reservation holders who will back out. Not to mention the affect of future sales.

that would be great .... we may or may not end up purchasing an Elio but will be happy to make calls that might help in getting legislation passed that makes sense .... come to think of it, I'm not sure passing such legislation is possible in NC ..

Isn't Missouri the "show me" state

A little out of the way from Louisiana to Florida no?
