It was probably changed for aero reasons. I'm no engineer, but I know moving air hugs close to convex surfaces (known as the Coandă effect) which was probably creating a pocket of pressure behind the curved skirt of the P3. By going to a kammback design, they eliminated that extra bit of drag and probably improved the milage by 1 or 2 MPGs.

Nice place for flames or "Ask me about my Elio". It will make all the time we spend on this website and all the information, opinions etc worth while. And once you get them talking you will be able to express all the political opinions you have been stifling!

I guess I'm thinking standard auto-sized plates, not motorcycle-sized plates. Which size do you think will be required on the Elio?
In the majority of states (actually IIRC all states), since the Elio is an AutoCycle it will carry a MC plate.
Which also means in the states that have 2 plates on cars, the Elio will only have the one in the rear.

I've posted about this before, but because it's kind of important I'm posting it again for the sake of the new members, and, hopefully, so Elio will recognize a good idea when they see it.

Next time you're out in traffic take note of the rear end of the cars and trucks around you. I'll bet you'll have a hard time finding one that doesn't have it's name or logo on the back. There's a reason for this... it's great, free advertising.

I propose this. Modify the design of the rear panel so the license plate is a few inches lower than it is now. Then place the Elio name above the license plate. It could be a simple decal, a metal badge, or, as shown in the pic below, an addition to the rear light and works just like the brake light.

Let the people behind you know what you are. It can only be good for sales.
