Bet it'll still be better than the Opel my father had back in the 70's.
What's wrong with the Opels? I had a 1978 Opel Kidette wagon and that car took more abuse, overloading and neglect than any other car I've ever owned and ran like a champ. What hurt it finally was my neighbor doing forward and reverse burnouts in my front lawn in the rain to chase my dog. (He never got close to the dog). It lasted doing it about a dozen times before he blew the transmission out of it.

Always had a thing for the Opel GT's myself. Might even get one now if I could find one that wasn't a complete rust bucket.

I thought the Opel GTs were cool as well; at least when I was in High School :)

I had a Isuzu Opel that was rebadged as a Buick and that thing was a piece of crap. If it wasn't the timing constantly going out of adjustment, or the paper thin doors not working, or the fact that it had no heat in MN, or that it rusted when rain drops fell on it, well, I guess it would likely still be a piece of crap.

My elio will be much better.

lol
Durability of the car was not the issue. But that car sure beat the hell out of us on trips. It would've been an early 70's Opel. Creature comfort wise it was more basic than an old VW bug (I like them). Back seat was like riding on a buck board. Dad, 3 boys, and a dog along with associated luggage.

*edit* It definitely was not an Opel GT. Think financially strapped Opel level.....

I currently have an Opel GT. When I rebuilt the engine, the top compression ring of every cylinder was broken. One cylinder had both compression rings broken. (?) I like it.

An Opel GT is what you get if you run a Corvette through a car wash using hot water.
You know how hot water makes everything shrink.

Here you go, looks clean, and a decent price; but it is in NH 1973 Opel GT

Have to agree with W. Willie on some of the 'suspect' looking areas, but pretty clean for the year. The one thing I learned with all my '70's Porsches is that there's certain areas that are prone to rust that require MAJOR metal replacement to make them roadworthy. I think I'd better get my 'collection' going before I attempt to convince the wife that another 'project' is a good idea. ;):D
