I am in the category of being willing to trade efficiency for power. The Elio's fuel efficiency is not what draws me to the vehicle at all. I love the design (except for the view dead on from the rear, I find that boring but we can work on it), I love the idea, and I think it will make a very fun commuter to go along with my bike.

I am holding out for the second year turbo, or maybe Roush will make an add-on kit. If actual plans for one are not announced by year two then I will probably just buy the naturally aspirated Elio and live with regular bolt-ons for power until someone makes a kit.

Right now I am getting 22 - 24MPG in my Miata. Since I only put about 300 miles per month on my cars anything over 10 MPG is fine, LOL.
If you want performance, then have I got the place for you to take your Miata to make it perform.
It's called Flyin Miata

And you can get something like this

Yup, that is the kit I am looking at. Tom's Turbo Garage did a build on Youtube putting the 525 HP LS3 crate motor in one.

If we are still in our existing house with dinky garage I will probably just go turbo for now. But, the eventual plan is to go with a V8 so I can finally get a modern version of the Sunbeam Tiger I always wanted :)

And of course the Elio as my reliable daily commuter. But I still want more zip than stock out of the Elio if possible. I have had cars in the 10s 0-60 range. They are surprisingly livable, but not what I would consider thrilling around town or on the highway.

I can still remember my first Sunbeam Tiger. It was on a showroom in OKC in 1964 for about $4500. It was a Shelby car. I have always wanted one, but could never afford one. The last Sunbeams I saw in OKC were not Shelbys and the price was 25k -30k. If my memory is wrong, that's OK.

Huh? The last Sunbeams I saw in OKC were not Shelbys
Shelby's were copys (sort of) of the Sunbeams, but a Sunbeam was never a Shelby.

I knew that; but as the article says the first ones were "works" cars; basically factory built race cars.
The imported the Tigers were never Shelby Tigers, they were always Sunbeam Tigers.
They were actually built by Jensen Motors with royalties paid to Shelby for doing the initial design for it; it was always Rootes Group was the parent company until Chrysler bought them. You would usually (they could be found at other dealerships also) find them at dealership that handled MG/Triumph/Austin imports.
