You have to admit though, there isn't much metal between those cyclinder walls. Hope that Flame Spray works well.

I was looking at that .... I can see why there have been reports of efforts to make sure the cooling system is very efficient .... with such thin cylinder walls, I see how they could warp if the motor over heated

I can't wait to see this block next to something that gives us relative size as it looks to be incredibly compact and likely quite lightweight for an engine block.

Here's a pic of the block of a "smart", 999cc :)

It is looking good. I noticed the siamesed cylinders also, I supposed the cooling tech has improved on this over the years, I have memories of the old chevy 400 small block with only the middle two cylinders siamesed, that didnt work out that well then. I think this issue has been much improved over the years, or at least hope so. Us old timers have long memories.

Aluminum conducts heat very well, much better than the cast iron of the 400. Lots of alum 4 cyls with siamesed bores running around. Look at a Triumph speed triple, 900cc triple ,water cooled . About the same size as the elio engine ! Machine work looks top notch in the pics :) Steel crank??
From what I've read (mostly on this site), the bigger challenge with a small aluminum engine like this is actually retaining enough heat for efficient operation. There is a lot of surface area compared to bore area than on larger motors.

I am far from a gear head or knowing much about the mechanics of it, but it looks great and can't wait to see it tested!

I believe this is one area where just about everyone agrees. :)

It does not matter if you are a gear head or not, or an Elio skeptic or supporter, as we all would like to see this engine fully operational and get real hard numbers on what the Elio/IAV engine can do in the real world instead of in computer simulations.
