Trouble is, the existing headlights would need to be removed because only one pair is allowed to be fitted to the vehicle. It would need some thought but the easiest thing would be to request P3 body panels..

wouldn't a good body shop be able to remove the OEM lights and fill the space .... my hunch is P3 body panels would be hard to come by .... the P3 is a 1 of a kind custom build

No word yet. I am sure that everyone at EM was aware of the ramifications that would follow the delay. I am convinced that some "politician" will benefit from it. Also convinced that EM will benefit. We just have to wait and see. :)
This has nothing to do with politicians and their benefit, but rather 100% blame on the EM Board of Directors. I hope we all benefit.

I'm sure that most things are possible in that respect but let's not forget that the Elio is supposed to be a low cost vehicle for the masses. Importing a single example is going to be expensive enough as it is. If it didn't comply with the regulations as it came fresh from the factory, I'd simply not bother and I suspect, not many others would.

If Elio intend to sell these vehicles in Europe, it's going to be up to them to make them compliant, and market them appropriately. ;)

understood .... right now I think I'd be pretty safe in saying that adapting their vehicles for export isn't a high priority with EM at this time .... they seem to be pretty much focused on getting them on the road over here first .... down the road, who knows

I'm sure you're right. But they need to sell a quarter of a million of these vehicles a year, don't they? In my simple brain that remains a highly optimistic target, even for a nation as large as the USA. Surely, it would make commercial sense to make the design compliant in as many market places as possible, right from square one.
