They have said that they will not be hiring people people until about 90 days prior to PRODUCTION, and 're-tooling' the factory and starting it for 'prototypes' (with the possibility of having to 're-tool' for the actual Production vehicles, after crash testing) does not seem cost effective. They have also said prior, that the Prototypes would be made in Michigan...... the Plant is in Louisiana.

The Michigan plant fell through a long time ago, that's why they secured the old GM Hummer plant in Shreveport, LA. It's been widely publicized for a while now. The individual one off prototypes may have been made in Michigan (P1-P4), but I'm not sure about that.

I read somewhere when I was first exploring Elio information, that a company in Michigan that specializes in building prototypes has been building them for Elio. I know the place is somewhere near Detroit but I don't remember exactly where. This was information from the Elio Motors website not hearsay.

The prototypes have been built by Technosports: http://www.technosports.com/

'Cali Chris; NO 'plant' in Michigan..... just by a company, Technosports, that builds prototypes, and vehicles for films. They are NOT a mass production facility; so AGAIN, I ask; "How will Elio Motors build their 'claimed' 18 to 26 prototypes before scheduled PRODUCTION in 1st Qtr 2015? To further support my skepticism;
Also (from FaceBook); "Elio Motors:-- Ray. We will have 18 Prototypes in 3 -4 months.
Like · 2 · August 10, 2013 at 1:11pm"...... FIVE months later...... ONE P4 #1. Since then (Jan 2014).... Nada!

Also, info that has been published. They will build this round of prototypes in Shreveport. They will use this small amount of production to help them also set up their production processes. This can not happen until they have the final engine and drivetrain available. This is suppose to happen this summer. If they stay on track with this timeline then that should give them approximately 6-9 months to test the prototypes to confirm they have achieved their "must haves" and finalize production set up. Mainly 84mpg and five star crash test rating. If they have succeeded, production is estimated to start in Q1 or Q2 of 2015. If the must haves are not met then they may compromise their must haves or delay production again. I try to stay objective, I have read many articles and blogs, I've watched tons of video. I am optimistic enough to put down $100 of my hard earned money, but skeptical enough to wait for further progress before I further my reservation deposit. If you are uneasy with Elio as a company then walk away. No reason you should try to bring everyone else down. Oh, and FYI they tried to get a plant in Michigan along with funding in the past and that fell through. The plant there has since been demolished and if I remember correctly I believe the property is still vacant (that may have changed since I last read about it). As Paul's dream became more of a reality Elio Motors secured a investment from the Caddo Parish in Louisiana in return they will buy the GM plant from Racer Trust and guarantee 1500 manufacturing jobs in Shreveport, LA. Here's a link to the article on the Racer Trust website:

There is other on the forum that have already discussed this in length here on the forum. You may want to do some searches and read some of the info. It's very interesting to say the least.

That is part of the reasoning that has crippled Detroit. Don't give a start up business a chance, and be a possible boom to your local economy, just tear down a functioning auto plant.

Some skeptics would rather just shout that you are wrong than read...
"Read" what? The above Racer Trust 'news' article is from 3 Jan 2013. "Cali Chris", please provide a source from Elio Motors that states; "They will build this round of prototypes in Shreveport." My 'research' shows:
Elio Motors ... All that work, including prototype build and engineering is in Michigan, not in Shreveport. To run into Shreveport and start setting the line up, to set up hard tooling for a design that we are still fine tuning, would be foolish and probably guarantee failure. ...
