What Milage Would You Accept To Get Your Elio?

Just don't care about the mileage, get it built. I'll buy the gas and if it don't like the mileage I will pull the engine and drop a 4cyl diesel in it.
Just build it . Fine tune the mileage stuff latter if must be. Don't care about high HP. I can go fast enough.

Ditto..........just build it and give me mine, I'm only getting it for the FUN factor !!!

Technically, we have no idea what the Elio gets in mileage. All we know is "up to 84 mpg". So, it could be between 1 and 84 mpg. Also, Elio has only done a simulation as to what the mileage would be (from the SEC filings). At this point we just have to go with the up to 84 mpg and wait. I know that they will save time with a off the shelf motor but I didn't realize it was going to get worse gas mileage over the Elio engine. Hopefully it will get 80 on the highway and 49 in the city.

On a side note, just under 61 weeks until the end of 2019. As for the longest item on the timeline, Elio needs 72 weeks for the ECO body shop. That is independent of any of the R&D along with testing. Hopefully they will come out with a new SEC filing and an updated timeline since the last one was in 21 weeks ago.

"up to 84 mpg". It's like when you're shopping at the mall and you see a big sign that says "50% off". Then you look a little closer and see the "up to" in small print. The sign just went from meaning a good deal to meaning nothing at all.

Maybe Elio should do the mileage test (and ads) like Ford did a few years back. Ford bragged about the great gas mileage they got when they did a test run from Denver to L.A.. What they forgot to mention was that on that trip you drop about a mile in altitude.

Give me a 10gal tank and 67 will do.
Give me a 13.5gal tank and 50 will do.
Etc, Etc.

Must be great to be so young. I remember when I could do really long drives in a car without stopping. 300 miles for me is tops today. I remember being beat when I decided years ago to take my TDI Jetta and run a total of 720 miles straight on a tank of diesel, never again. When I was real young I took my Audi 5000 diesel and drove it 800 miles straight on 20 gallons (it had a 21 gallon tank but you could jam 22 in it).

Great to be OLDER and slightly off. In 2016 I drove from Ca. to ILL a total of 2145 miles in 38 hours flat.(total time)
averaged 62.4 mpg in the LRR. Stopped for gas 3 times.
I antisipate that the ELIO will actually yield 75 MPG, and up to 84 mpg if you are an expert.

I really just threw out a few questions with the milage to see what came of it. The posts are interesting to read. I have owned a lot of motorcycles (5 currently) over the years and while I am not sure a comparison to a motorcycle is a good one it really would depend on which motorcycle. I have had from a 200 hp Kawasaki ZX14R that weighed about 580 lbs to 50 cc scooters that could barely move. My 70 cc Honda Passport got 100+ mpg!!!
If a diesel in the Elio was offered I would be very tempted.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is exhaust "noise". For some, they want a header and a ferocious sound. Me, I would like it as quiet as possible. I don't need to burn rubber either. Just give something with traction and a somewhat peppy acceleration for highway on ramps. I drive sixty miles a day and comfort is also important. Oh, and I've suggested it before, two sun visors.

Like many , I would accept any MPG in return for a quick delivery . The Elio is simply an enclosed motorcycle with car-like accoutrements.
I want it to be quick and nimble and odd as hell .

Agreed that the question assumes a relationship between fuel mileage and time to market, and we don't know that to be the case.

If the question were rephrased to "What fuel mileage would I consider acceptable", the answer would be 60 mpg. My low-tech Kawasaki KLR650 regularly does 53 mpg, so I'd like to think a 30 year newer design with better aerodynamics could achieve 60 mpg.

You would think that we should easily beat a bike. I have 40,000 miles on my 07 KLR and got between 50 and 65 mpg depending on my speed. My 2014 CB500X gets a solid average of 64 over my 12000 miles I have put on it. 84 mpg is going to be tough to get, but I am hopeful for about 60-70. That would be pretty awesome along with the weather protection and a heater. I need it to be reliable though as I am looking to travel with it in my retirement.

What is an LLR?
