Would the Elio be suitable to become an EV and carry batteries?
Possibly, if you want to change the frame, double the weight, alter the weight distribution, redesign the passenger compartment, double the price, and put up with far more limited range.

I think you might see a hybrid Elio in a few years, but a pure EV would be a very different animal -- competing in a different market. You'll be competing against 4-seaters, family cars, and for what gain? Your Electric Elio (popularly nicknamed the Eel) will not be competitive in that world on capacity, price, or just about anything else. So why bother?

You'll see a turbo Elio sooner than an EV or even a hybrid, because it can be done without major structural changes and with a clearly defined cost difference. That would allow the car to appeal to a different market, but without all the design and start-up costs associated with a radically different car.

Oh boy, can't out do a realist who also has humor! :-)

Statistical evaluations are a difficult read for me. The humor is a defense mechanism against things I don't fully understand.:yo: I appreciate your projections about what the Elio market may be. A correct assessment of the market is essential to Elio success.

JMHO, and agree with the door, I think a couple years down the road, the Elio should get a narrow second door for the passenger on the opposite side from the driver. This would not add much weight, nor ruin the structure and no unjustified complexity. It would also keep the customer base pretty wide, being better for traveling, baby seat access and a sense of flexibility in uses.

This is it. I concur. This is my Elio all the way.
