But can you build it for $6800? :focus:

If Elio can build it for $6,800, then yes, I could too. He is not doing anything magical, but they are putting in the hard work to get it done. And for that, I will gladly give them my money.

Could I (or anyone here) start a company to build a $6,800 commuter? Sure, but it would not be out before the Elio!

Very misleading title on this thread and in your conclusions. They've always said $6800 was a goal, not a certainty. It's right there in the contract you signed when you reserved your Elio.

To tell the truth, I think what has happened is that Elio got more disciplined about how they say things. Perhaps they are not as confident about the 6800 or they are worried about how their statements affect the funding programs they have. But I think the official wordings are the same. And you know the economy is not a static thing either. It's been a few years and the 'bar' may have moved a bit.

I'll be super happy if they stay under $7900. And I don't think any gripes are justified if it remains under $7300. But as everything else, we'll just have to wait it out.

With the Q4 2016 production date so close the final window sticker should be announced soon. The original Hello Elio campaign some 8 years ago was under $7500........so if they are even close to $7500 factoring in inflation........they meet a target price.

When gas hits $4.00 a gallon again (and it will, if not more) you are going to see a $7,500 Elio as a bargain. If gas was $2.00 a gallon 8 years ago, Paul wouldn't even have started down this long and difficult road.
Anything can happen, hurricane, economic factors, a tiny little war somewhere.
Who knows, I foresee at least another year of cheap gas. After that my crystal ball gets cloudy.

Oil is a finite resource, cheap gas can't last forever. Right now the middle east is maximizing production to stifle our domestic production.
