The only problem with using wood (well besides sealing it) is the weight of it.
Wood is heavy, and whatever you build you have to be very careful about how heavy it is when you finish.

True. Cedar strip boats, covered with glass and resin are remarkably light, tho...and very stiff. The strips are only about 1/4" thick, with a convex leading edge and concave trailing edge. Almost like "tongue and groove." Probably not as strong as "Marine grade" plywood but easier to make complex curves.
Just thinking out loud at this point in time. :bored: :bored: :bored:

in reality the strips are just for "pretty"- it would be just as functional and strong with just glass/epoxy.
and yes the description of the strips are right on

JEBar, I've scrolled through this thread but couldn't find viable information on "towing the Elio". I want to tow ours behind our class A Motorhome. Do you recall a thread on this? I want to use something like a Blue Ox tow bar and wonder how it can be attached to the E.lio. Anyone have suggestions or comments? Thanks......Jim

I have used different tow dollies in the past. There are different models on the market. Some are hell to back up. I used one that had castors. It actually worked pretty good on a light car. When someone actually uses one on an Elio, this forum and thread will be the correct place to get first hand advice.:yo:

I don't recall a thread dedicated to flat towing an Elio behind another vehicle .... over time there have been many post about it in various other threads .... from early on EM has stated they are designing the Elio to be flat towed behind a motorhome .... I've spoken about it with their tour folks who told me that they see it as a significant, viable market .... I've never seen details on how they are planning to attach the tow bar and would really like to do so it would be good if some of our folks who happen to visit a tour stop would readdress this question

I heard the same; that they were working with a company that makes tow bars, hitches and the such; but nothing since that one mention.

I currently tow my Hyundai Sonata (automatic) behind my Motorhome with a tow dolly and you are right, they don't back well. I want to eliminate this with my Elio and flat tow it for a number of reasons. Hopefully Blue Ox or one of our talented members will have a suggestion
