I had no idea the hood was secured this way. I figured it would have a release inside the interior, and a safety latch just like cars have. The way they have it now seems like a royal PITA...I hope they change their minds and put a normal hood release on it...

You can always modify it after you bring it home.
I want keyless on everything and use an RFID fob.
As for someone needing to get under the hood, you'll have a valet mode for them.

Probably not going to happen. According to what I've seen from Elio, a "normal" hood release costs $20+, and the clips cost around $3.

I think they should make the "normal" hood release an option.

Don't think that would work on an Elio hood. Probably more like one of these is what Pistonboy is talking about.

here is a picture of a hood pin on the P4 .... there is one on each side .... I don't see a problem with it

The 'pointed' chrome piece (hood pin) is attached to the body and goes through a hole in the hood (actually two holes, one on each side). The clip attaches to a groove in the hood pin to keep the hood from lifting.

Pins, like on the P4 are by far the safest method of securing a hood and coincidentally the cheapest. Had them on every race car I owned and tested them many times, against concrete walls, other racers.......
