with only 1 being produced so far, the cost per engine has to be way, way, way up there .... in a vehicle selling for under $7,000 the engine can't be high dollar .... it will be interesting to find out down the line what the cost ends up being

Considering EM is probably 'way down on the priority list for IAV because it is such a small account (compared to the others in the company's portfolio), it stands to reason that if there is some glitch in IAV's schedule on ANY project, EM is the likely candidate for getting shoved to the back burner for a few days. If Volkswagen Group calls and needs a quick design check, their vendors immediately leap - asking "how high?" on the way up. It's not a big deal, it's the way things work in the business world - in a pinch, the little guys can't always get priority one service. Especially when those big guys hold 50% of your stock . . .

But that's OK. You can imagine the big clients are happily paying for "right now" attention. At the same time, EM is getting top-shelf engineering at a somewhat lower cost - because they can accept schedule changes. I've had occasions to be the "fireman" on other people's projects too. I get a call from Aberdeen about a software glitch 36 hours before a major trade show opens, and I'm on the way to the airport, my staff securing my reservations and calling our vendors, while I'm working out the needed fix in flight. Situation under control 90 minutes after touchdown in Scotland. You do that in any service business, you do your best for everyone, but the guys who keep you in business get first priority. You get the job done, crash at the hotel, and work out the fine points of billing later. Then you get your other projects back on schedule.
